-and their physical appearance, importance to the story, and character traits

Fiction - The Hunger Games by Suzane Collins
Have you ever contemplated the significance one person in your life can have on upon your actions and choices? Or in this case three characters in the book who help to evolve and enhance the overall plot.
The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins introduces very unique and powerful characters. Three of which I found to implement further aspects to the plot; Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen and President Coriolanus Snow. The hunger games is written in first person from Katniss Everdeen’s perspective. Furthermore, there is a lot of powerful messages portrayed within the books and I would personally recommend reading it. “In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided between 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citize3ns of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’s young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives” (Suzanne Collins, 2017)
The physical characteristics to describe Peeta Mellark within the book; "medium height with a stocky build" and has "ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead" with blue eyes. Peeta is the deuteragonist within the story, his relationship with the other main character (Katniss Everdeen) begins rough due to the fact that they are both being sent into an arena to die, yet throughout their time in the arena an unclear relationship developed. For Katniss, it was fact and she only commenced to act her fake” feeling to get funds from the capitol. However, for Peetas emotions about the situation was real, he loved her. Peeta was patient and respected Katniss as she was fighting with herself. She was torn between Gale and Peeta. In the end Peeta patience and love for Katniss payed out, and after they one they won the rebellion have not entirely developed as of yet and overall due to the circumstances. His presence has a very influential significance, for he is selected as the male tribute of district 12. As a result of his position he is an important and key aspect to the story. So far, the character traits Peeta has portrayed lead to him being viewed as a very kind and caring character, one reoccurring action he did to display his empathetic and thoughtful nature was describe through a reflec5iton upon a memory Katniss Everdeen had, where in which Katniss collapses in the rain due to huger pains in front of the bakery, Peeta being the baker’s son is sent to give the pigs some burnt bread he was about to throw the breads to the pig when he notices Katniss. Despite knowing he will get in trouble by his extremely strict parent he gives the bread to Katniss, saving her life. This further also impacts the plot for Katniss owes Peeta her life.
Katnis Everdeen’s physical description within the book is that she is slender with black hair, grey eyes and olive skin. She is sixteen years old and attends a secondary school somewhere in Appalachia, known in the book as District 12, the coal mining sector. She is often quiet and streetwise in a district ridden with dangers. District 12’s residents generally like her, due to her keen accuracy with hunting with a bow and arrow and providing highly-prized game for a community in which starvation is a constant menace. Katniss is an excellent hunter, gatherer, archer, and trapper (Gale Hawthorne a close friend, some in the district even believe them to be cousins, taught her how to set up traps.) and overall skilled with patience and wisdom just like her deceased father. She and her father shared singing ability, too. Since his death in a mine explosion, which killed Gale's father too, Katniss has been the sole provider for her family, a role she was reluctantly forced to assume at the age of eleven when her mother's grief overcame her ability to function. This responsibility cast upon her shaped her overall morals and traits, due to the pressure placed upon her at such a young age Katniss developed a strong and fierce personality. Furthermore, the loss of her father seemed to implement a sense of concern for the family she has left, making her very concerned. Due to her concern and responsibility toward her family she takes up 18 tesserae, meaning she put her name in the “draw” to go to the hunger games 18 times in exchange for 18 meagre year’s supplies of grain and oil for one person, in order for her sister to only have to enter once reducing her overall chances of being selected as tribute. Therefore, Katniss was surprised when her sister was chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, Katniss was shocked and terrified yet due to her compassion and determination not to lose another loved one, she willingly volunteers as tribute displaying her caring and kind nature and further expressing her sister, Prims, significance in the story. Furthermore, Katniss’s relationship with her younger sister Prim extends further for she often calls her by her nickname lil’duck, Katniss further shows her true compassion by feeding and caring for her sister’s goat named Lady and her cat Buttercup despite her dislike for them. Overall Katniss’s importance with the plot appears to be obviously fundamental in establishing the overall meaning of the story, Katniss symbolises hope. In the form of a mockingjay she is able to start a revolutionary rebellion to defeat the tyrannic capitol, mainly their ruthless leader President Snow.
Coriolanus Snow was privileged enough to be born as a citizen of the capitol, despite his fortunate upbringing of knowledge and reasonable virtues he turned into a tyrannical and ruthless President of Panem. However, although he carries the title of President it is unknown if he was elected democratically. Snow is perceived as the villain in the series. Due to his presences in the plot, there is a new motivation for the reader to continue their adventure as they reach the climaxes. Snow due to his possession of all power in Panem’s government has proven to be a manipulative and cruel dictator, ruling over the capitol and the 12 districts. Furthermore, he is responsible for developing and organising the annual Hunger Games and a strict military oppressing all the poor districts. Overall Coriolanus snow is a ruthlessly sadistic, violent, greedy, arrogant, power-hungry, wicked and utterly evil man, obsessed with keeping the perfection of the established order and little respect for human life. Coriolanus Snows is physically described as being a small man with paper white hair, snakelike eyes, puffy lips, and smells of roses and blood.
