Holiness is a gradual, progressive path towards that Christian eschatological hope that is the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. When will Jesus return? Many Christians ask themselves. Paul does not answer us that, but yes, he recommends us to live vigilantly, as "children of light", so that God does not find us unprepared:
"But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.", 1 Thessalonians 5:4-11.
Accept the Kingdom of God, the government of God's perfections among men, is to understand the nature of spiritual warfare, we are soldiers of our Lord Jesus, good and evil are constantly around us, we must reject the bad and seek the good using the breastplate of the faith and love, and the helmet of salvation; and also helping our brothers and sisters not to fall into temptation, correcting ourselves with mercy and edifying each other. By making this commitment a daily determination of every day, persevering, this is how we must live vigilantly waiting for the second coming.
