Hello everyone, it's another episode of the mystery of the Bible. If you will like to read from the beginning, kindly click on @seyiodus to view the blog where you can get the series and other interesting Bible series.
This episode was delayed because of some causes that were unavoidable but to God be the glory. So today, I will be talking about the next point that is the last on the listed which is covetousness; also called idolatry.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry..... Colossians 3: 5
There is a lot to say about covetousness but I will just shorten it. A person who always wants what others have is said to be covetous. I say it's a bad disease that needs a serious prayer as it can leads to a lot of things spiritually and physically. Covetousness can lead to lying, evil desire, stealing, greediness, adultery, and even hatred. Wanting another's things without having it can make the person think of a dubious way to acquire it and can make the person to dislike the owner without any course.
For the iniquity of his covetousness was I angry, and struck him; I hid my face and was angry; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. - Isaiah 57:17
A covetous person will never enter into the kingdom of God. We should be contempt with whatever God provides for us and rejoice in others' testimonies while praying for our own wants.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. - Hebrews 13:5
It is called idolatry because it's more like serving ones' satisfaction for a want. Not only when one put a carved image or something similar but when one love whatever it is more than God and pursue after things that do not glorify God which covetousness almost carry it all.
He said to them, "Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man's life doesn't consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses." - Luke 12:15
Therefore, we should always but our desire in control which can lead to covetousness; minding our nature and be prayerful; filled with the Holy Spirit to always correct and guide us when needed and I pray that satan will not overcome us with the spirit of covetousness.
This is the end of the list in verse 5 of Colossians 3 and I will continue from verse 6. See you next time of the next episode of The mystery of the Bible.
Stay blessed.
Shalom.
