Critiques From The Writer's Block

By: @Lymmerik

Recently I have found The Writer's Block. At first, I really didn't have a clue how to use it, but as with all things, it came into focus.

Several of my new found friends here on Steemit and Discord: The Writer's Block, gave me clarity and incite to this wonderful tool to use when writing short fiction and poetry.

You should try it.

I entered a writing contest with A Photograph of Dad. I'll have to admit it was clunky. It was a last minute entry for the contest hosted by @rhondak called Writing Contest Mandela Effect.

I copied my entry A Photograph of Dad in the contest. I didn't win or even place in the contest, but quite possibly could have had it not been for my errors with punctuational mechanics. I then copied it to Google docs and sent it to them Here. There are guidelines so, PLEASE FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

I was prodded by several other writers, @jonknight, @rhondak, @geke, and others to submit it for critique at the Discord channel The Writer's Block. It got shredded, but it was such a great learning experience for me that I will be submitting all my short fiction to them for critique.

If you would like to learn from your mistakes, these pros will help you. Go on over to Discord: The Writer's Block and check it out. Here is my Invitation for you to encourage you to join us at the Fiction-Workshop on Discord: The Writer's Block.

You'll be glad you did!

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings!

Nice post there @lymmerik, and good job on taking the criticisms/suggestions with grace. It's a hard thing having someone tell you did something wrong (over and over again), but in the interest of self-improvement, you're always going to be better off if you acknowledge your mistakes sooner rather than later and make yourself a better writer in the end.

What he said. I do hope you'll make me cry in the end. ;-)

@timypaleokitchen,
I haven't written that one yet, but one day I will!
@Lymmerik

Yes, we all need to be able to take constructive criticism to better ourselves and our writing.

@jasonbu,
Thanks. It is a pleasure being part of this group!

@negativer,
I've always been that way. Mistakes are a learning tool in my book. I've made many. I am basically an amateur writer, I've always written, but never published except for a poem called A Kiss From Venus. I posted it once erroneously in a Muxxybot contest thinking it was a poetry contest, but it was supposed to be a poem about Muxxybot. Lol. Anyways, thank you all for the critiques!
@Lymmerik

Ah, I didn't mean to imply that you were anything but gracious in your acceptance of criticism. Just wanted to give you credit for having a good attitude and being willing to improve, even if you're already very good :)

@negativer,
oh no worries, I didn't take it that way at all! I'm just thankful for you folks over there at The Writer's Block!
@Lymmerik

@lymmerik, it is a real joy having you with us on The Block. You are one of us already. :-)

@rhondak,
I love you already! To meet you in person would be such a treat! Thanks for all the support and interest in my writing!
@Lymmerik

It's mutual! I'm hoping against hope that next year's Steemfest will be in the U.S. 'Cause if it is, we're all gonna meet up some whichaway. Guaranteed.

@rhondak,
You got that right! I hope it is in Phoenix, that would be awesome!
@Lymmerik

Best that it be somewhere out there, for sure, because the northeast corner can get nasty weather in November. ;-)

great post

@mdhasan58,
Thanks, I hope you use this tool too!
@Lymmerik

You definitely see criticism's value... the first time Rhonda and Jess critiqued my writing it stung for about ten minutes. Maybe only five because I now had ideas and direction on how to improve and that felt great. Like you, I see the value and I'm very thankful for what I've learned there!

@geke,
I know right! I'm going to be setting down and rewriting A Photograph of Dad. So is @rhondak, we are going to try in in 500 words or less. Yikes! She'll win!
