Thereafter a week of exhaustion from an online class, I sat down in my bed with a book in my right hand and a glass of milk in my left. It was 5 a.m. and it was raining heavily; this is the life I've always sought. Enjoying my own solitude while listening to the melancholy sound of rain and inhaling the Pleasant petrichor of rainfalls on dry ground. Life is simple yet so magical.
A beep on my phone jolted me awake from my euphoric state. It was a Facebook notification that drew my attention as I placed the mug on the bedside table; I browsed through my news feed and discovered a variety of news articles with images. One of them is a news about a rape victim, and as I go through the comment area, some didn't seem to comprehend the context, as they took delight in blaming the victims as if it's their fault for being raped, or that it's their fault for luring the rapists to rape them. I was furious at the time; how could these commenters dismiss the horrific events that the victims had to endure? However, I thought to myself, "This is life's reality." People have a tendency to cast aspersions on others without considering the other side of the story, without knowing what truly transpired. They'd say whatever they wanted. Indeed, Understanding what you're hearing and seeing is a skill that not everyone has.
That is why, Communication arts will be extremely beneficial to me as a student pursuing a professional degree, especially in my future endeavors as I pursue a career path. Communication art is a course that will teach students vital skills like listening and viewing comprehension, which will be useful in the future when it comes to how you communicate with others, especially in today's digitally saturated society. It is of paramount importance that we, as a student would learn to listen, and view a certain image, language, sign and other audio-visual or digital information critically and analytically as it demonstrates that we are paying attention to the other person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as allowing us to avoid disputes and understanding, develop empathy and improve relationship as you would feel a sense of connectedness.
Furthermore, Communication art will improve our listening and viewing skills, which will enhance our capacity to communicate effectively, because without the ability to listen and view, we will be unable to interact efficiently. You wouldn't be able to decipher a specific message, which would lead to misunderstanding due to the ease with which messages might be misinterpreted. We would know what to write and post on social media, when to speak and respond critically, and we'd all understand that blaming the rape victim because he or she was raped is nothing but a load of cobblers. More importantly, We would be able to practice professionalism if we acquired these skills.
