I am going through something similar. This month and next, it's the 20th and 19th anniversary of my parents' deaths. It smacked me last week. I wrote about it in my most recent post.

In twenty years, all I've learned is that the sadness doesn't go. Hang in there and hang on to the happy memories.

Sometimes we don't know where sadness comes from in these times and it has nothing to do with the material. The problem in my case are the empty chairs on the table, those chairs of those who left before their time and without saying goodbye. That's my pain this holiday season. But there's still family to celebrate with and put a good face on life. Have a reaally nice day my friend. Greetings from Argentina.

Well pluto was in transit and the alignments yesterday wont happen for another 12 years. Maybe this holiday will be different. Change is coming. Just embrace it. Try to relax and get into the festivities in your own way. Like my family, we dont celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact its horrible what we did to the Native Americans. But i do like to cook my family a nice meal for being my family and sticking through the hard times. Make this holiday season about you and what you like. Remember your father in the good times. Did he like a particular dish to eat? Celebrate his life. Its hard because this will be my first Christmas without my father. So I need to remember myself. It seems surreal yet. I dont know if Ive grieved his death but we need to try and remember the good things. Most of the holidays are just made up things based around certain astrological configurations, or pegan holidays dressed up. Celebrate and take time that they give you, cheaper gas because they know people are shopping. Since your saving money on gas, get yourself a starbucks coffee. Yes is pretentious but you deserve it. Get a holiday spiced coffee and enjoy a moment with a magazine and a view. Just have you time. Mend whatever saddness you have by noticing the good little things we do have and celebrate ourselves. We dont give ourselves enough time to mend, to think, breathe.. take the time, make it yours and wear a dam smile doing it!

And for you, your things to celebrate may be different. They are all around us. We tend to as humans notice and get consumed by the negative things affect us but if we can switch to motice the little positive things that happend. Therefore changing our outlook and life progresses positively. Its not easy but rewardinging when you can train your brain to do whats good for us. So self destructive; humans.

Christmas has become a strange season. It used to be about bringing families together but now consumerism has took over. Now it seems we only have Christmas so we can buy stuff and give gifts to one another. It's a strange world we live in.

Sadness creeps in and sometimes it is hard to explain. The pain does not go away when we lose someone, we simply move on and we just need to hold on our loved ones. I think you look like your dad. Smile as weekend is almost near.

Silly season, it does bring back memories even though we no longer celebrate with decorations and trees.

One home meal spent together enjoying each others company, keep memories close they are the treasures in life.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. We have stopped decorating long ago. Everyone wants to put it up, but no one wants to put it away. LOL! We just have quiet family meals and enjoy one another's company. I'm thankful I still have Mom. :))

I will share an inner feeling with you in support. We never celebrate Christmas, as I see it as a man made rip off occasion. I don't buy presents and I refuse presents.
Must be because I got nothing in my child period and all of my family except one older sister is left in this world.
But I have learned one thing and that is not to allow it the bother me. Christmas is just another ordinary day in my life and it helps me to cope with my feelings.

Perhaps in some way you pick up on the vibrations of people around you that are feeling down about the festive season because they are alone, or perhaps lost someone etc. I am exceptionally susceptible to the energies of those around me and I often have to check myself on it. Although, like you also said... perhaps it is related to the loss of your dad. The loss of a parent must be incredibly challenging to process. Sending love and hugs sweetie!

It's funny (and can be disturbing) how sadness can just come upon you for no apparent reason!
I think that this is the time when your dad had passed away could definitely be the reason that sadness, lingering grief surfaces!
It seems that it is also a time for you to remember with fondness and love your dad too - which is a good thing!
Something I remind myself of if I am feeling glum is that all things pass and this will pass too!

A lot of people suffer the doldrums, depression, or just feel down in the winter as a whole. some of it is sometimes attributed to a lack of sunlight and vitamin d. The anniversary of a passing also contributes, I'm sure. I hope you begin to feel better soon! Remember, you're not alone.

I don’t think this feeling is too uncommon. When I was young it really hit me hard. It’s a challenging Tom of year because of a lot of reasons. Partly, I think the magic of The holidays is so enticing, like a Hallmark movie or a Currier and Ives painting, but in reality it can be hard to find. At the same time we slide into the shortest days of the year (at least in some parts of the world). But it’s much more complex and individualized than that simplified description. Everyone has their own expectations.

It’s great that you acknowledge it and allow yourself to just experience it and that you are then able to move on. That seems really healthy. I also recommend taking vitamin D. It helps me so much that it doesn’t actually happen to me anymore.

I can totally empathize. This is also a very hard time for me. My dad died when I was 14 (November 2, 1975). His favorite holiday was Christmas.

Also, while in the military, I spent many holidays deployed overseas in conflicts. So I do kind of understand why I get in a funk this time of year.
