To the victor goes the spoils - Gaming glory

in thoughts •  5 years ago

The battle raged; No quarter asked or given. The thrust and parry of the conflict swept across the battlefield swaying one way, then the other, making it impossible to determine the outcome with any accuracy.

Hero's were made that day and lives shattered but when battle ceased only one side could claim victory. One would climb over the bones of the shattered and broken enemy, to attain the summit and ultimate glory. src

I grew up in a world where gaming meant board games, going outside to play, or making up games to play with my brothers, some of which were brutal and painful I can assure you - Boys will be boys. Before long computers came along though and gaming took on a different meaning.

The first gaming console I used was an Atari 2600; It wasn't my own though as my parents couldn't afford one - If you remember this console you'll remember how lame the games were but back then...They were awesome. Frogger was my favourite - Getting that little guy across the road without splatting...So satisfying!

My first computer was an Amiga 500 which I got in about 1988; I bought with my own funds earned at my job in a GM auto plant.

I gamed a little on each and had some fun. As time progressed the computers got better, as did the games, and as I got older...I completely lost interest. I don't game now. At all. Well, except the epic gaming battle you are about to witness.

I recall playing Ghost Recon online with my brothers. I was here in Adelaide, one was in far north Queensland and two others were in Finland. It sucked because my interwebs speed was way slower than theirs; The hamster running the treadmill to keep it going here in Adelaide got tired a lot.

I'd be poking my head around a corner, lining up to pink mist their heads with my sniper rifle and then BOOM I'd be dead, my own head exploded like a melon at close range by a bullet sent by one of the Finland brothers. You see, they'd sneak up behind me and because of the interwebs lag I wouldn't know. I think it was funny for them, but not so for me. Assholes.

But recently I got back into gaming and it's that game I want to show you today.

As gaming is so huge on the interwebs I thought I'd share some live-time gaming I did only last night.

Here it is below. Be warned, it was a bloodbath!

As you can see this gaming was not conducted on the interwebs but was hard-fought nonetheless. At the end, well, there was a clear winner and to the victor goes the spoils.

OK, so maybe it's not quite gaming in the true sense, or interpretation, of the word in todays modern world...But it's gaming nonetheless; Isn't it?

I read a post by a user in the States, @silversaver888, the other day and was interested to read that she loves boardgames. I do too, but I guess so few do these days.

I just think it's cool to get a group of friends together, load up on appropriate snacks, the liquid stuff also, and hit the board games. I don't think I've ever been to a bad board games night and have always come away wanting to have another.

Maybe I'm a dying breed and online games are the way things are done now, but I'm not really interested. OK, I don't really have noughts and crosses games nights either, but getting a bunch of people together with snacks, lubricant in the way of alcohol (consumed responsibly of course)...Seems a legit night to me. I know, I know...I'm a dinosaur and should get with the program...The thing is well..Nah, not interested. Give me a board game any day.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my first ever gaming post and the noughts and crosses battle I was engaged in.

I love to play chess, everything about this game is perfect, except finding someone to play with, regularly.

Must be a attention thing.

Yes, I like chess too. I think many feel it isn't as interesting as the blinking lights and repetitive noises a computer game offers, however it's one of the all-time great strategy games loaded with battles on the board and in the minds of the players...It's a great game. I don't play well, I mean I'm no whiz, but I get by. I taught my wife to play and we do so with reasonable regularity...I find the silence whilst thinking of my strategy and moves relaxing...Except that one time when she beat me.

Ohhhh what a tragic finish for Xx's! I tried so hard! and got so far! but in the end, it doesn't even matter! - Linkin Park

Haha, yes it hung in the balance for a bit but in the end overwhelming odds fell in favour of the 'o's'.

O wow I remember as a teen going to friends places to play board games weekly it was so much fun👍😀. We played a game called Risk and sometimes Monopoly and others depending on the mood. Great times indeed I miss it with the interaction with everyone at that table.

I hear you, those games nights are so much fun. I remember Risk, good game! I remember my brother's and I playing it for days on end, no one willing to give up. Games nights are the best!

I remember loving Risk as a kid. Might have also been the friend I was playing it with. Great guy.

Great company and board games are a good mix.

Indeed they are👍

Risk was great fun.

Nobody wants to play Monopoly with me any more.

Because you win all the time?

The tantrums?

So much tantrums. I offer people deals. People not included in those deals get a little... disillusioned.

I never got into Monopoly for some reason.

We make some puzzles and play Connect 4 and Hungry, hungry hippos with smallsteps, but she is too young for real boardgames yet I think. I don't game anymore and haven't for many years as I just don't have the time.

I'm a whiz on Connect 4, unlikely I'd be able to beat smallsteps though. I like games nights...The ones we go to get rowdy and are a heap of fun! I'm sure it's got a lot to do with the company too.

My youngest daughter has bought a few board games fr us to play on Christmas day, there will be a few drinks involved :)

Haha, yep that's the ticket! So much fun, good interaction with the fam and the opportunity for gaming glory! Sounds good!

It will be a laugh and could get rather messy LOL

Take photos! Lol.

I intend to and i will publish them, well the ones that im not in Haha

Of course.

Haha! Brilliant sir galenkp! Written with the true dinosaur in mind. lol. I'm the same way, I tried one computer game one time and that was enough.

Haha, yeah, computer games aren't my thing...Was just having a little fun...I'm not very good at 0's & X's though...as you can tell by the images.

I play only a few electronic games. Most of the games I play are tabletop. Either board games or role-playing games (like D&D).

I played a lot of D&D as a kid 12-15 years of age I guess. It was cool, still is really. I'v played my share of Galaxian and Galaga down at the arcade in the early 80's too. So cool...

Must be before my time XD "Gaming" was always on computers, there were also board games and card games, and playing outside was just playing outside even if games were involved.

Even board and card games are pretty complex now XD

Back before we had kids we used to do roleplaying nights which I really miss, but time.

So maybe I kept missing it but who were you gaming with and who won? :D

Haha...Well, I challenged myself to 0's and X's and got beaten but I think I cheated. 🤣
