When the world wide web was created it was created with the intention in mapping thoughts of the people around Tim Berners-Lee. He theoretically was creating this as a place for people to openly post and connect their commonplace book and the web of thoughts that spawned from it.
Now, after constant development, growth and basically the explosion of this world being both on and in the internet itself we see some pretty astounding changes coming about.
In this brief article I want to talk about "How Google Is Literally Changing Thoughts"
And no, I'm not joking.
Starting With Google
![ben-white-128608.jpg]()What is google?
Google is a search engine that allows you to look for anything and find anything indexed by google itself.
It is built on algorithms to help itself make money (via sponsored ads for phrases and keywords) as well as finding which websites and search results contain the most SEO (search engine optimized) friendly searches.
But what does this mean?
Effectively it means that google is helping to finish and complete thought sequences through what they have indexed.
Something like the Dark Web would be where non-indexed sites are hosted and "anything" could be found.
Whereas google shows you what is popular, able to be controlled, and what the algorithms prove worthy.
How This Leads To The Control and Manipulation of Thoughts
So how does this factor into thoughts?
Lets say you think "Hmm, I wonder how the world works?" and then you google it.
Well this is what you get.
And this is exactly where it starts to get complicated and your thoughts just became manipulated.
First, off at this point you were recommended a few other search results, and of course, because anything in your immediate sensory experience has influence, your mind is now influenced by what you've seen.
This could:
- Either lead to a new thought process entirely
- Send you down a rabbit hole
- Just be a momentary speed bump.
Although, no matter what, this experience is now slightly changing and you are primed for something new.
Its how youtube gets you clicking through a million videos because the suggestibility of those things around you spark curiosity, new thought processes and an overall spark in some neuron somewhere that changed focused slightly.
Remember, since light is energy, any new light in a new pattern leads to new energy and some new reaction.
Like the butterfly effect.
The Top Links....
Then come what google has at the top of the this indexed thought engine.
Starting with advertising, which is typically, the largest sum of money paired with the highest relevancy and a few other metrics generated by their ad auction formula.
Of course, this is created for both higher user intent and profitability.
Essentially they know which shiny toy draws the most views and angle all eyes towards it.
Which means that everything at the top can disuade the previously intended thought process for something else, pending on what the search was (as many searches don't have paid ads.)
Then comes, the links on the first page below it.
Being a marketer I know all that goes into googles ad auction formula, as well as the SEO formula to truly rank on the top page.
It takes a lot.
Filling your article, post or page (pages get the best ranking) with link juice or many high indexed other links, plus keywords (without stuffing the post too much), formatting the H1, H2 and H3s correctly, making sure the page has good metrics and conversions, etc..
Honestly, a lot goes into getting a page at the top of a google search.
Meaning that this thought, results, etc has been methodically taken effort enough to then result at the top of the page.
This might mean the thought is solid, the result is correct, and that the person is getting what they are searching for, or again, google has identified which shiny object draws the most attention and thus provides a result in which is knows the user will have good sentiment, not question the validity and then subsequently feel fulfilled.
Which doesn't mean it is correct.
As google finishes your sentences for you, it ends up sometimes changing the ending.
What Happens To Unpopular or Egregious Thoughts?
This is more where I want to focus when it comes to thoughts and search indexes manipulating them.
If google started and it had all racists or unintelligible people immediately set the stage for the algorithm than from the start the algorithm would sort for that, ranking it higher and suggesting these thoughts more often.
Which subsequently would result in the world (or the users of goole) thinking about it more and more often.
What happens next?
Well these thoughts become more popular, more talked about, and often like fake news which ranks so fucking high it is ridiculous influencing the world in a negative, polarizing way.
Those headlines rank so high because fake-news puts so much effort behind creating a shiny object not realizing what happens after that domino falls and hits the others.
Now what about unpopular thoughts that are genuinely good?
Well as we can tell from looking at any homepage of a news site, bad news draws clicks and headlines while good news doesn't always.
The same goes for the intelligent thought sequence vs the unintelligent but funny or cute thought sequence.
And thus, some amazing thoughts, links, pages and effort gets lost because googles algorithms sort them out.
They aren't searched for, they aren't clicked on and thus they are lost.
Its not all doom and gloom thought, because with more and more people waking up we are redefining the algorithm, sorting through B.S. and getting back to free thinking which created the evolution of humans before.
So next time your thinking about googling something, do a little more digging ;)
This might be good, or it might be a bad thing, but its just some thoughts pouring out of my head.
Thanks for reading,
Austin

there's a probability that google may know more shit about you that you know about yourself, and that wouldn't be a surprise

Actually being an advertiser on facebook, I know they do, considering you can't market specific things I.e. gay or straight to people because you may know it and spread that before they have told people...

I discovered back in about April 2017 that you can't dig too deep into google search results - that is, reading through too many of the lower ranking pages of results - without prompting a captcha asking if you're a 'robot'! That's right, if you are looking for a 'specific' bit of information and FAIL to be sidetracked with their preferred 'shiny toys', google search will frown upon you and demand to know who you are.
My solution to the intrusion is to use Startpage for searching. You remain anonymous and your searches go untracked. Even though you are still using the google search engine, your persistent, unwavering, UNMANIPULATED search patterns are never seen and so you never upset google when it fails to derail your research.

You are highlighting a real issue with quite the significant ramifications.
Essentially, we have algorithms that sort the internet for us, be it Google/YouTube, Facebook, Amazon, eBay or any other site hosting or allowing access to a wide variety of information, content or products. And what people get shown as a result for their searches or in their feeds, is bound to have some effect on them and their perception of the world.
That's why the responsibility falls on each and every individual to seek out reliable sources and to make up their own minds not just based on what an algo has determined to be popular or likely to keep you coming back to the site (which is usually the algo's main objective).
Unfortunately, most people don't give these type of things much though and just accept what they are served and quickly move on. On some seaches and issues that's fine, but sometimes, some digging is desirable despite the fact that most people do not engage in it.
