Crossing over into mystery

in thoughts •  6 years ago

In a class today, we spent two hours discussing needs and wants trying to discover how much of our life is unnecessary. My client is in his early 50s and head realised, he doesn't need a pay rise, it no longer helps him much as he has all he really needs.

I also think that as we get older, what we value changes also. Maybe with age comes maturity and wisdom or perhaps we just very tired of the chase but, we generally simplify our lives, the older we get and desire less. It could also be that we are more attuned to knowing what we want.

It is interesting to track personalities over time and note how many started off with certain beliefs and expectations that have changed quite drastically. Whether it is experience that dictates a revaluation or that as we get older we lose some of our inhibitions and care less if we are judged, it is hard to say.

How many things did you once believe you would or would never do only to later end up breaking your own words? How did you justify the change, is it wrong to go back on what you once said?

Some people think that sticking to words is important and in some cases it may be but, when new information comes to light that wasn't considered initially, what then? Would you prefer someone to remain in line with their words even though they now hold greater insight?

The world is full of mystery and we can never know it all and each of us is limited in our capacity to learn and change. Even when we do or best, we can never close all gaps, never be perfect. What we can do however is do our best to investigate and grow when we learn more and of course be understanding of others going through their process of maturing also.

Right now we might think ourselves pretty smart, but so did the person we were a decade ago. Are we still that person?

Going back on words sometime in the future might be why there's that never say never saying? XD

If you do all right in life then maybe you just get to a stage where you realise you have everything you want already and just kick back. Seems to be the case with my parents anyway.

I knew for sure I knew everything way back when. Now I know I don't know much of anything, and it's much easier that way XD

It is easier. Just think, never have to find something to do because there is always something to learn.

If we are open to continually learn, realizing we don't really know as much as we think we do, we have to understand ...... that what we believe now and the way we understand it will change through our experiences. We believe one way, till life teaches us a different view. We can only make our decisions based on what we know already, but that will change and we will then have a new truth.

I believe as we get older, the things that are really important becomes clearer and we realize that a lot of things we thought should matter, really don't. We learn to find ways to be happy where we are, because this moment is all we can be sure of.

Perhaps we also sense our own mortality more and then value the life we have before it runs dry.

Well Illustrated! Those make for nice artworks and even better series, especially due to harmony with your topic.

Thanks, I like the cross process on the lights in these.

This is why I generally don't mind aging, I've gained so much life experience and knowledge that life gets easier in many ways. There will always be difficulties and tough times but as time goes on, I find myself much better equipped to handle those times. I know I also enjoy the good and easy times much more than I would have when I was younger. Perfection in life is unattainable and then that only leaves you feeling as though something is constantly missing , that life isn't complete. When I accepted all of the imperfections, I became a lot happier and content.

Youth is wasted on the young! lol
Such a truism

Absolutely!

It is interesting I think that a large part of what is attractive to individuals are the imperfections in others, the quirks. We love symmetry until it becomes too precise, then it gets awkward.

I don't even know what to say! These photos are just amazing! So dreamy and creepy, warm and cold. Just wow. And yes I agree, we should never stop learning. And the hardest part of life to me, is to learn to UN-LEARN.

the unlearning is a massive challenge as the system is set up to keep reinforcing the lessons.

The more you learn the more you realize the less you know. For the teachable, life's journey teaches Simplicity and humility. More is less and less is more. Values change wisdom is gained. Hopefully in time we realize that a higher power will take care of our needs if we allow him to take complete control. There is very little we need in life to survive. Things are not important as We Leave them Behind as we cross over. Only relationships love and matters of he heart are what truly matter. Thanks my friend @tarazkp

Things aren't important but doing things is I think. A lot of people live a life passively never questioning if they are actually living.

The older I get the less I want out of life in material things. books being the exception. I want fulfillment (not that same as happiness) and only enough money to live comfortably.

I use 'happiness' pretty loosely but fulfillment is a better word for the meaning side of things. Happy itself is just a feeling that is destined to come and go.

I have recently been thinking about this as I am due for a promotion in a couple of weeks (I have been already been given the responsibility but not the consideration). In preparing myself for the conversation, I have been thinking of thinks to ask for that will make me more flexible rather than just getting more salary or bonuses. I am thinking about working a day a week from home or additional vacation days. Another thought was to get some education paid for... These are certain things that improve a lifestyle by not being attached from money but instead something worth more, time and knowledge...

I think there should be more of this kind of thing where the perks have personal value rather than just economic value. I think that it would actually help a lot with a range of society ills overall and those who can swing it, should consider taking other than money.
