US Army Secretary Secretary Ryan McCarthy told reporters at the American Enterprise Institute on November 21 that Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer used a short video on the US military in recent years in a letter to him on November 7. The platform TikTok expressed concern about recruiting recruits, and he ordered an investigation.

Schumer said in the letter, "National security experts expressed concern about TikTok collecting and processing user data. This includes user content and communications, IP addresses, location-related data, metadata and other sensitive personal information." In particular, Schumer is concerned that Chinese law requires domestic companies to "support and cooperate with intelligence services controlled by the CCP."

Reuters said that researchers found in 2018 that many people in the US military use mobile applications to share personal information. The fitness application mobile phone software Strava inadvertently reveals sensitive information such as military posts and secret military bases.

Forbes News reported on the 22nd that the US military last year recruited indicators have not been completed, they began to use TikTok and other social media platforms to expand contacts with American youth, increase the number of recruits recruited.

TikTok did not immediately comment on this. Vanessa Pappas, the company's general manager of the United States, responded on a blog post on November 5 that the company's data center "is all outside China."

She said that US users' data is stored in the US and backups exist in Singapore. The company said this year that TikTok has 26.5 million monthly active users in the US, 60% of whom are between the ages of 16 and 24.
