As all the people, for me is very difficult staring into the eyes of someone, appears a kind of blocking, for what I naturally i try to avoid it and even more so when I try to explain something.
They have always told us that if someone lies to us us not look in the eyes, but many times I myself have been engaging in a normal conversation with someone, without having to say a lie and I have been unable to look at the eyes. On many occasions talking with my girlfriend, or a friend have been unable to keep the look in the eyes of the other person much more than a few seconds.
On other occasions i could look in the eye someone for a few seconds, although at certain times in the conversation, i looked "Dead points" but without losing the thread of the conversation. Surely you daily pass through this situation and they are not necessarily lying, or suffer from lack of self-confidence.
Because we find it hard to look into the eyes?
A Japanese study , from the University of Tokyo (links at the end of the post) has conducted a study on this subject, in which it determined, that eye contact and verbal expression are different independent areas from each other, yet people often tend to avoid eye contact, when there is the verbal expression at the same time, although theoretically speaking this should not happen to be different areas.
They conducted an experiment in which several volunteers sat in front of a monitor and played to a "play on words" that monitor from time to time appeared a few eyes, which the participant should look as it continued with the play on words.
Through studies of imaging in order to visualize whats is happening in the brain when these activities were carried out simultaneously. (look at his eyes, while talking) something interesting, was discovered while participants did not have to see to the eyes, his performance in the play on words was excellent, activating the corresponding areas in the brain (articulation and understanding of the speech) Once appeared the eyes on the monitor which the participant had to see, not only were activated the areas before mentioned , were activated also the visual area (vision and visual Association) which replace the speech area, which explains why when appears the eyes on the monitor, the volunteer decrease considerably their performance on wordplay.
Let's say that the cognitive resources from the area of speech, were diverted to the visual area, since it was also found that the brain pay vital attention to the eyes with the sense to memorize the features and expressions from the person who see, which explains such diverted resources.
Another Italian study related to the same subject found something very interesting. The experiment consisted of two people to see in the eyes for 10 minutes, volunteers from the experiment, the volunteers lived very interesting sensations.
volunteers count, get out of their bodies and have strange hallucinations, there even some who claimed to see their deceased familiar or themselves or even monsters in the eyes of the people who they been staring after 10 minutes staring into the eyes.
Would it be interesting to try this experiment with someone you trust and see what happens

Very interesting. I always find my eyes wandering when I'm telling from memory or when I have to think.
