I Hired This Indian News Anchor Dude On Fiverr And It Was The Best $15 I Ever Spent In My Life

in til •  8 years ago  (edited)

So last year I went to all the trouble to learn how to self-publish a book on Amazon.

Did I write a best-seller?
Nope.

Do I make decent income from book sales?
Nope.

I make about $11 per month from book sales on Amazon. For me, though, that's better than zero. I have a serious attention disorder which prevents me from finishing projects. So for me, finishing something like a book was a really big deal.

I read about how to publish on iTunes and Kobo and other book publishing platforms but I never got around to actually doing it. Perhaps with my next book I'll figure out those additional platforms.

Getting my book finished was probably the hardest thing I've ever forced myself to do in my life. I read all these guides and tips on how to sell my self-published book, but really, sales isn't my thing.

But you know what brought me the most joy throughout the entire process of self-publishing?

Finding this Indian Anchor dude on Fiverr and hiring him to create a book video for me.

His Fiverr profile is here: https://www.fiverr.com/ashwanithakur

He was really fun to work with and he completed my project in a timely manner. He was extremely professional in all his correspondence with me. I think he deserved a lot more than he's asking for in the way of payment. At the time I hired him, I was pretty much broke. His over-the-top performance was exactly what I was looking for and he delivered way more than the $15 I paid him.

Hiring Ashwanithakur was the absolute best part of self-publishing my book. If you need some kind of advertising service, he'd be a good one to choose for your job.

Here's a link to my Amazon book, Un-Crap Your Life: Navigating Life's Crappiest Situations.

The software I used to create my book files is Pressbooks.

If you have questions about how to self-publish a book on Amazon, feel free to ask. I've written some guides to help people figure out the steps. I think I wrote a few of them on Steemit.

ps- I know I owe @teamsteem a book! I have that on my "taking care of things" list.

Thank you for sharing. Now I'm going to write a book on you writing a book and publish it following your tips here ;-)

ha ha!!!!!! I'll be inspired by you because right now I'm in a downward spiral! I wish I could finish something else!

thanks for resteeming my post :)

It's a pleasure, very good information that can really help other talented writers like yourself.

Here's my own attempt at making a "commercial" for my own book...ha ha!!!:

LOL

Haha!

Don't scream at me anymore. It's just a bad way to talk to people. Haha! It will be nice to own your book and read the chapter I haven't read. Thanks Stella!

I think I did say that exact thing to my boss. Those evil men made me so angry every day. I ended up getting pneumonia while working there because my soul had died on the first day of work at the dealership.

You should invite hime on Steemit:)

Yes, you're right.

Really informative, just new to self publishing, I will try him out. Thanks

outstanding

thank you

Nice to show gratitude!

Just the way he says "un-crap your life" makes me laugh every time. He's uber professional-sounding, so absurd words coming out of his mouth make me crack up.......

Congratulations on the book. I get the effort it takes to finish one-I had a childrens book I worked on for 2 years and it did not make me any real income :)

Lots of lessons learned though-so in the end I would say it was worth it.

Where is it published? I made way more money when i first published it, I think around a few hundred dollars, and the fact that money still trickles in without me doing anything is promising......

I posted it on Amazon Kindle. the name of the book is "The Resilient Joneses stop the flood". Didnt do very well but it was great for me as a learning experience. Glad to hear you made some good money on yours :) I need to improve on my stuff I think haha

Ah, but you're in a very small percentage of the human population. Most people say "there's a book in me" but then they die without actually getting around to writing a book.

Congrats for the book, @stellabelle!

I didn't know you are into self-publishing. Although, with the fluidity of your writing and your stamina I should have guessed it. I self-published 9 books so far on Amazon, Kindle and iBookStore, the first one was in 2009, if I remember well. In time, I made a decent amount of money, although I had almost zero promotion (only posts on my blog and my social network).

My tenth book is on pre-order as we speak and it will be launched on December 21st.

If you need help or just want to ask some questions about the quirks of self-publishing, do let me know, I'd be happy to help.

And congrats for promoting this guy, very good karma!

oh cool! I didn't know you had so many book out. I will definitely want to ask questions once I write my second one and try to get it onto iBooks. Is the process pretty easy for iBooks? What topics do you write about?

iBooks is not very complicated but it is a bit more convoluted than Kindle. Amazon made huge progress on usability. I recently read that Kindle amounts for more than 75% of all sales for indie authors, so maybe iBooks is not even worth the effort.

I write non-fiction, productivity, motivation and even a book about how to self-publish, lol :) The latest book is an auto-biographical story about running and how it helped me overcome depression and denial. Here's the link for it:

ok, great. Thanks. I'll check it out! I haven't downloaded any books in a while, so it might be time again!

Just bought it, looking forward to read your story :)

Hey, thanks for that! I really appreciate it. I hope there's something in it you find useful.

ah, I just checked your books out! Interesting topics for sure, especially the 100 ways to screw up your life one!

He, he, thanks :) The "100 Ways" series is on a promo right now, you can download them for free.

ok, wow, I'm interested in how to screw up my life more!

hahah thats good to know! I really enjoyed reading your book! It was very real and easy to read and very helpful to those who are going through similar issues, maybe not the ex mental boyfriends on that level, but still. Well done, you should be proud of yourself!

Congrats about your book! That requires drive and discipline to complete one.

Yes, it was horrifying to finish! Finishing your first one is the hardest part though.

That was awesome! Loved the video. He has a lot of marketing energy and is somehow funny at the same time. Well played.

What a great idea!

Looks like well spend bucks. You should get him to come on steemit and accept Steem or SBD :)

yup

Damn for 15 bucks that's amazing.

It's almost ridiculous. Fiverr is kind of an abomination, driving down artist's rates.

lel

what does "lel" mean? LOL?

Lol'ng is so 2016. ;)

ROFL

congrats on your book @stellabelle and for giving this referral for this wonderful man!

Thanks. It feels like old spaghetti now that I wrote it last year, but I appreciate your well wishes.
