||1964|| Graphical User Interface (GUI)

With a mouse and a graphical user interface (GUI), Douglas Engelbart showed a prototype of the modern computer that marks the evolution of computers from specialised scientific machines to a technology that is more useful and accessible to general public.

||1969|| UNIX

UNIX, an operating system that addressed compatibility issued was developed at Bell Labs. Because of its cross platform portability, UNIX became operating system of choice among mainframes at large companies and government entities. But it never quite gained popularity among home PC users because of its slow nature.

||1970|| DRAM

First Dynamic Access Memory (DRAM)chip, Intel 1103, was developed and unveiled by The newly formed Intel.

||1971|| Floppy Disk

Floppy Disk was invented by IBM engineer Alan Shugart and his team. Now the data can be shared from one computer to another.

||1973|| Ethernet

Ethernet was developed by Robert Metcalfe at Xerox. Now computers can be connected to each other and other hardware via it.

||1975|| Microsoft

Microsoft Formed by two computer geeks and childhood friends, Paul Allen and Bill Gates

||1976|| Apple

On April Fool's Day Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computers. Apple I was the first computer with a single circuit board.

||1981|| IBM Personal Computer

IBM releases first Personal Computer "Acorn", which used Microsoft's MS-DOS Operating System. It ran on Intel Chip-set with two floppy disks and a color monitor(optional). This Computer popularized the name PC.

||1985|| Microsoft Windows

In response to Apple's GUI, Microsoft announces Windows.
Years before the World Wide Web would mark the formal beginning of Internet history, first dot-com domain name is registered. Only 100 dot-com domains registered in next two years.

||1990|| HTML

HTML developed by Tim Berners-Lee, a researcher at CERN, Geneva. HTML gave rise to the World Wide Web.

||1996|| Google

Google - The Search Engine, was developed at Stanford University by Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

||1999|| Wi-Fi

People start connecting to Internet using Wi-Fi.

||2003|| Athlon 64

AMD released worlds first 64-bit processor for average consumer - Athlon 64.

||2006|| MacBook Pro

First Intel based, dual core mobile computer, MacBook Pro, released by Apple. Nintendo’s Wii game console hits the market.

||2011|| D-Wave One

D-Wave Systems announced the first commercial quantum annealer, the D-Wave One, claiming a 128 qubit processor. The D-Wave processor is designed to use 128 superconducting logic elements that exhibit controllable and tunable coupling to perform operations.

||2013|| D-Wave Two

Second in line after the D-Wave one is this beast with the computing power of approximately 512 qubits. It has dimensions equal to a 10 square metre room.
