Using aTimeline Perspective in Your Life

The Timeline perspective is learning how to view all the aspects of your life in all of its many timelines. By viewing all three of these perspectives you are then able to see how everything fits together. For example: you may be living from a very young age, then an accident occurs, you are thrust into adulthood, then a promotion occurs and so forth. By looking at each of these perspectives in turn you will be able to view your whole life in a much more balanced way.

The first of the timelines is the requirements lifecycle management perspective. This takes into account the processes and products that support and drive your business. By reviewing the requirements lifecycle you will be able to identify any business obstacles that impede progress. You can then work towards finding ways to overcome these obstacles and move your business forward.

The second of the timelines, we will look at is the future self perspective. With the future self perspective you are looking to the future and your ability to predict the ways in which you will adapt as time goes by. With this perspective you will be better positioned to make decisions that will help you meet your goals and objectives. To do this you need to be able to align yourself with a company that has a vision for the future, one that is aligned with your core values. By having a partner who is focused on the long-term rather than short-termism, you will be in a much better position to set the direction of your company.

The third of the timelines, we will look at is the consciousness timeline. In this case, you are looking to see how your current career path fits in with your sense of who you are. In particular, when you look at your career and what you are doing now, are you still aligned with your core values? If not, it may be time to make some changes in your thinking and in your actions so that you can align with what is important to your consciousness. To do this, you need to think back over your career, your education and your training, and decide whether you are doing work that supports and fuels your sense of who you are.

The fourth of the timelines, we will look at is the action perspective. With the action perspective, you are looking to see how the actions you are taking are helping you move forward and meet your goals and objectives. For many people, this will be an internalized reflection of what they want to do, but for others it will be an externalized reflection. With the action perspective, you have a toolbox of things to turn to: your skills, your resources, and your relationships. You can then align your decisions, actions and strategies with your chosen timeline.

The fifth of the five-slider timeline perspective is the reflection perspective. With the reflection perspective, you are looking to see how your life, your career, and your training are reflecting back on you. You can do this with the fifth finger on your left hand. Instead of looking at your career as something separate from yourself and your life, with the reflection perspective you can see both as part of the same "you". This sliders give you a way to go in and out of the chosen timeline, as needed, to bring awareness and balance into your life.
