Every day we should be striving to live that day as the perfect day. We can all agree with that right? We get the right things done, we fulfill ourselves and others around us, and we can look back on the day and feel good about it. I know that sounds generic so let's dive into what the perfect day means, shall we?
So yesterday, I got home exhausted! I was tired beyond belief, I was a little grumpy, and I could not wait to get into bed and rest up for the next day! Let's rewind a little bit. So, the night prior I got home from a company barbeque around 1:00 am and got about 4 hours of sleep. I drove with my teammates for about 3 hours to a little town called Seward. In Seward, we boarded a 3-hour cruise where we watched whales, saw sea life, and enjoyed the amazing views surrounding us. Then lunch. After lunch, we hiked a glacier. We drove another 3 hours and scoped out a wildlife conservatory, which was awesome by the way! We topped it off with a 3 hour wait at a phenomenal restaurant and enjoyed a very late dinner accommodated by a live band. We got home again around midnight.
So back to me being tired, a little grumpy, and ready to get some sleep. The reason I was so ready for rest was that my day was crammed full of action! There were literally no rests, no breaks, and my team and I did an abundance of things. This is my definition of the perfect day! We have allotted ourselves 24 of these things called hours. I sleep 7 of them and that leaves me with 17 of them remaining to go and take massive action on my perfect day. My perfect day means I "overdid it". That is right. I believe we should "overdo" the amount of life we cram into a single 24-hour span. Why? Because tomorrow we are going to get another one and when that happens we won't get back the hours we did not maximize the day prior. If I live day after day like this, then after many months, years, and decades of consistency I will have lived a life that was truly excellent.
In today's culture, we are taught to live in conservatism. We don't want to work "too hard", we don't want to get "too tired", and we always seem to be saving our time and energy for some unknown thing. This mindset prevents us from attending life fully and maximizing our capabilities and potential. The way we handle this is we begin adding more good and fulfilling things to our lives. We must ignore the inner voice that tells us we are at risk for "overdoing it" so that we can begin doing more!
