After the death of Tina Fontaine many articles call for change. Tina was 15 when she was she was murdered. She was a ward of Child and Family Services and they failed to protect her from those who would exploit her.
The government of Manitoba will release a report of how Child and Family Services took care of Tina before she disapeared. I wonder what good it will be considering the corruption in Winnipeg and CFS in the province of Manitoba. There is going to be alot of finger pointing that much is sure.
Andrea SlobodianCFS Minister Scott "they don't need the 32 million in funding" Fielding's press secretary is quoted in a email.
"The minister commits to releasing it and says proclamation (of a new law) is imminent,"
Daphne Penrose the provinces children's advocate is quoted saying.
"The investigation is almost complete. We do have a little bit more work to do on it,"
Opposition NDP family critic Bernadette Smith is quoted as saying.
"I think we need to look at... why this little girl was failed on so many levels and how do we prevent this from happening in the future,"
Sheila North, grand chief of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak is quoted as saying
"I think we need a public inquiry... because it would highlight the services that were meant to keep (Tina) safe, where they failed, and how things could be different going from here on,"

Here we have an article from APTN it speaks to the legacy of Tina Fontaine. One thing they started doing is dragging the Red River. Another is bringing back Blear-Clan which is like native street patrols done by natives in the rough neighboorhoods.
Pam Palmater an native activist is quoted as saying “Literally, if you look at her, she’s everyone’s daughter, cousin, our children. Every time you look at her you think, especially those of us that have children, that could have been one of our children,” "And I think the fact she helped galvanize Indigenous peoples across the country, but not just indigenous people she drew media attention to the crisis."
Grand Chief North said to Tina Fontaine’s primary caregiver and great aunt Thelma Favel
“that I hope that you find comfort in knowing that Tina’s life now is a representation of all of us needing to come together to do more for our communities." “That starts with her life but it expands to what Indigenous people have been saying all these years and it seems like that unfortunately through this little girl that the rest of Canada is starting to pay attention,”

Here is an article from university of Toronto as the case has drew much attention from across the country.
Okimakanak Grand Chief Sheila North said, “the systems, everything that was involved in Tina's life, failed her." “We've all failed her. We as a nation need to do better for our young people.”
Karyn Recollet a "professor" of "gender" studies at university of Toronto is quoted as saying
“We have a system that trafficks Indigenous children, especially in the cities,” “We look at Winnipeg, we look at Toronto and we’re seeing children being housed in homes that are just not safe.”
“Even though she was filed as a missing person, each of these systems never really paid much attention to her or what her needs would have been in those moments.” “It's very scary right now,” “I know a lot of us are feeling very scared for our children, a lot of us are feeling very angry. We're just trying to make sense out of that even though it's nonsensical.”
Wait till she hears about the pedophile rings!!!
Other people are quoted in this article and although but I am not going to get into it because the article seems to race bait.
Suzanne Stewart is quoted as saying.
“Fontaine was someone who needed numerous supports in her life and wasn't able to access those because of her identity.”
No it doesn't matter what colour or race you are if you are a group home kid you are the most marginalized in my city. If you are a group home kid you have had pedophiles try to feel you out at the very least. Racism was a factor in dealing with the police and there is racism in the system but every group home kid is affected.
Do not make this just a native issue...
Make it a all inclusive to protect and investigate who hurts those that have no voice.
Find those that have been trafficked and exploited inquire about how it works, get names, get identifying features to those names, get addresses to those names, map out the social networks to those names and take action.

It is very sad to know that this can happen to all of us, without distinction of class, the beings that are capable of harming children when they are supposed to take care of them are a few
