Today I discovered that robots can jump and fly! I mean I know there have been flying war drones for quite some time, however I had no idea that robotic scientist had managed to mimic nature.
I have no idea what possible practical use a robot that flies like a butterfly might have, but it looks pretty and brings a smile to my face.
WHAT HAVE YOU DISCOVERED LATELY? AS EVER, LET ME KNOW BELOW!
A tiny butterfly robot silently flutters its way to your window, and stops there, taking a little rest right there on your windowsill, unseen and unheard.
A small camera extends, and it begins its long-term surveillance and recording of your home.

.... and then realises it doesn't have to because you've bought an Alexa! :-D

@cryptogee,
I'm of two minds. All of this is, self-evidently ... amazing.
But there is something else ... something I find disturbing. We seem to be Hell-bent on replacing everything and everyone ... just because we can. To program the whole world to comply with our Will. But it is the very unpredictability of life, whether human, reptile or canine, that makes it so fascinating. We are becoming so disconnected from the Natural World that I cannot help but feel uneasy.
No need to take the Good with the Bad nor to negotiate a compromise in order to share The Commons. Just determine what YOU WANT and program it accordingly.
Man's Best Friend ... Plug and Play. Two Year Head to Tail Warranty.
It's true ... real dogs are a pain in the ass. They require of their owners, their friends, to pay a price for that friendship. A reciprocal trade of fealty and fidelty. No more. One is to serve the other. And if the servent becomes old and tired, just throw it out and replace it with a newer model.
As a spark for self-reflection, I include the poem/article that was the genesis of our own meeting so long ago:

All this aside, great video. Fascinating and food for thought.

I hear you, however I remember the words of a NASA scientist who was working in the biomechanics division. She was trying to come up with an exercise machine that would work in zero gee, and she said something along the lines of;
"We're trying to mimic nature because that right there is 4.5 billion years of R&D, so who are we to say we can come up with a better structure?"
Something like that, but you get the point... As for robot dogs, I'll stick with my real one for the moment, at least he doesn't short-circuit when I give him a bath... well kind of not! :-)
