Hello Steemians!

Welcome to my "Today in History" serial, where I bring you daily historical facts and events of the current date.

In today's episode I will take a closer look on George Washington's death which happened on 14 December 1799.

George Washington was riding and supervising farmers on December 12 1799, during a hard weather shifting day, where the weather changed first from snow to hail and finally to rain.
Washington refused to change his wet clothes before going to dinner as he was late.

The next morning there was three inches of snow outside and he felt a soar throat, yet despite that, he went to do as he planned. Throughout the day multiple witnesses reported that Washington had increased problems with his voice.

In the evening as he was reading the newspapers his throat was so soar that he asked his secretary, Tobias Lear, to finish the reading for him.

As the morning came Washington was feeling even worse.
In order to cure him, he got a half-pint of blood extracted, and nearly suffocated from a medical mixture.

As the day progressed more and more doctors were called into helping Washington, but without any results, his state was worsening.
Even at the care of three doctors Washington was not feeling better.

At 5pm Washington dressed up and thanked the doctors for their help. Once more they tried to help him, but without any success.

Later at night, between ten and eleven at night, 14 December 1799, George Washington, the first president of the USA passed away.

At the time of death he had the closest ones to him by his side.
His wife Martha, his friends Dr. Craik and Tobias Lear, housemaids Caroline, Molly, and Charlotte, and his valet Christopher Sheels.

On December 18, 1799 a funeral was held at Mount Vernon.

I hope this was also as interesting to read and learn to all of you as it was for me!

That was really good...just think with antibiotics, he probably would have been fine and lived 10 more years. Great pictures! Upvoted And actually, he was the second president...Henry Laurens was president under the Articles of Confederation. Washington the first under the Constitution.

Glad you liked it! Thank you for the info! I myself am not from the USA so did never have an real in depth look into it, just never came across my desk. Hoping to learn with time with this series. Not just about the history of the USA but the whole world!

I love this! Please keep them coming.

:) Glad you liked it! I will!
