Lets get right to it then, Card Trading can and will always be profitable to "some" people....
First you need an edge. There is more than one "edge" in trading BUT you need to develop one AND you need to use it. I personally trade around information shared in discord chat by Aggroed and Matt.
For example I have been buying Alpha rares for a couple of months and reward card commons/rares for a few weeks leading up to the Dark Energy expansion. I was buying these cards up because they said with the DEC expansion you would be able to "nuke" these cards and turn them into DEC that would probably have more value than the current list prices back then.
They also said card rarity would matter and that the Alpha edition cards would get a bonus. (This was shared over time on Splinterlands discord)
So what did I do? I bought the cheapest, alpha rares I could find. They were going for .06 back then. As of this writing they are trading at .15, not bad says I. I also bought reward cards after they said they would get a DEC value. I did the same thing. I bought a bunch of .01 commons and .02 rares. The commons are trading at .019 and the rares .06!
Also if you use Peakmonsters you can list and buy large groups of cards in a single transaction.
This is one example of how to keep your eyes and ears open to try and maximize trading profits :)
Until next time.

Well done! I had the same idea but was a little late to the party. Still managed to burn a bunch of gold commons for a profit, but didn't make out as well as you.
It's a very interesting dynamic now, with DEC prices effectively setting a floor on card prices. If someone puts up a card for sale below the floor price, a rational market participant should instantly buy it and burn it. I expect we'll continue to see good deals from time to time because not all market participants are aware of this dynamic. But it does make pricing cards fairly a bit more complicated, as you always have to remember to take DEC into account.

I did the same lol... Except I mostly did it with gold rares/epics. I turned 50 steem into 550 steem in the hours after DEC was released, just buying cards, burning them and selling for DEC. It also wasn't particularly active work, mostly just passively waiting for orders to get filled, then repeating the buy, burn, sell principle... Studied for my latin exam whilst doing so :)
I still sometimes see cheap cards on the market, buy them, burn them and sell them. I highly recommend others to do so as well, as it can make a quick buck sometimes :D

That was definitely a smart move!
I also bought many alpha cards for cheap the last months, but I can't bring it upon myself to destroy cards, even if that is profitable :/

I think he means selling the DEC gained from burning.

Yeah, sorry. I meant selling the DEC you get from burning the card.
So it works like this:

There are so many interesting things in steemmonsters. Steemmonsters teams are super heroes in Steemit.
