Unfortunately, most people sympathize with a friend only if they benefit from the success of a close man. The above is an ideology, but it is not necessarily impossible. :)

I find that few people truly celebrate the success of a friend, especially if it is greater than their own. I struggled with that very thing myself, but finally reasoned out the self-loathing inside me.
