Who are the Top 100 Whales

I'm sure that many of you have wondered who are the Top 100 so called "Whales" or the people with the highest estimated total value of their steemit accounts? Well it is hard to say actually as most of these are anonymous users. You can expect to see in the top the accounts of the creators of Steem and Steemit, some service accounts, the exchanges trading Steem, miners and witnesses, early adopters and investors etc.

The top system account is @steemit and it currently holds 67,023,904.627 STEEM POWER and the total value of the account is estimated at $103,843,089.02 USD. Second is @ned with just about 5.4 Million estimate and third is @dan with about 4.2 Million estimated value in USD. Account number 100 in the Top 100 is @chana with 98,366.437 STEEM POWER and a total value of the account is estimated at $147,794.77 USD.

As you can see from the list quote a lot of these are at 100% meaning that they either don't vote at all, or vote just a little bit. As mentioned there are quite a lot of miner and/or witness accounts, system accounts, exchange accounts, bots and even investor accounts among the top 100 that have never posted anything and/or never curated anything on steemit.

There are however some "whales" that do seem to be quite active in curating content based on their lower voting power and these are: @wang, @complexring, @recursive, @berniesanders, @samupaha, @nextgencrypto, @silver, @abit, @adm with all of these accounts are currently below 90% of voting power. The following users are also more active: @smooth, @proskynneo, @silversteem, @smooth.witness, @fuzzyvest and @stellabelle with 95% or less voting power.

You might want to check the user @adm, he seems to be the BAD guy on steemit as he is only downvoting the bad content (could also be a bot) on steemit such as SPAM...

It is hard to get a really good data about this since the Voting Power regenerates over time and if the user has not been active for some time it could been enough for his/hers voting power could just regenerate to a high level.

Just as a comparison as I do vote a lot on steemit my Voting Power at the moment is at about 62% at the moment, though yesterday before going to bed it was more like close to 50%. I'm using the principle that whoever deserves my vote will get it, regardless of how much voting power I have available. I'm not saving it as my belief is that it is a resource that was given to you, so that you can give it to other users if they deserve it. Fortunately my Steem Power is enough so that even at about 50% voting power my single vote is still worth about $0.01 so besides a vote of approval my vote also gives some actual reward to whoever gets it.

What about your voting power, are you saving it to earn curation rewards with it or giving it away to the people that have made something on steemit that deserves to get your vote of approval, regardless if the post will go trending or not?

I think it's pointless for minnows to save their votes for curation rewards because we get so little. But it makes sense for dolphins and whales.

This is really helpful, as it shows exactly how your votes are diluted if you're voting more than 100x a day.

I agree!

This site does really have good stats about steem users, searching by 'Rankings' seems really useful for the casual stalking lol

Average estimated_value: 6,061

Interesting and informative, especially for those of us relative newbies trying to understand the rewarding system. Seems unbalanced but hopefully this gets improved as it evolves... Be well.

For a minnow like me, surely to give away.
