Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested a man named Saheb Ali (45) along with three gold bars weighing 30 lbs in Satkhira while he was being trafficked to India. He was arrested from Kushkhali border of Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening.
Detained Saheb Ali is a resident of Bhadra village in Sadar upazila of Satkhira. The BGB said the value of the seized gold bar was around Tk 22 lakh 50 thousand.
According to the BGB, a special patrol team led by Baikari BOP Commander Lansnayek Sahedul Islam under the BGB's Satkhira 33 Battalion took up position in the area yesterday afternoon on the basis of reports of smuggling a large consignment of gold across the Kushkhali border to India. In the evening, a van driver was arrested along with a van for suspicious activity at Chaykuro on the Kushkhali border. After searching the body of van driver Saheb Ali, three gold bars weighing 30 lbs were recovered.
BGB Satkhira 33 Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Mohammad Al-Mahmud said Baikari BOP commander Lancenaik Shahedul Islam had filed a case with Satkhira Sadar Police Station. Detained Saheb Ali has been handed over to the police station.
