What is an Uplink?

I figured it's best to add a picture to depict the way the lan connects physically and how the switches connect back to the core via uplinks.

As you can see above that the switches are conected via the green and orange links which are connected in a redundant fashion, no two links to the edge switch comes from the same source.

In this topology we can lose one link to the edge switch and still be fully functional. This is the typical setup in most businesses however there are smaller businesses that do not believe in being fully redundant and the reason for that is because they can afford downtime to fix or replace links as necessary.

Uplinks can be either fibre or Ethernet depending on budget constraints per business requirement.

Hope this has been informative and thank you for reading.
