2020: #1 Steem City

Yes I am living in Steem City right now :D

But but it's virtual...

I have lived in Copenhagen for many years and will again this summer. The cost of living is pretty expensive, but not as expensive as Oslo (thats crazy). If you have to rent an appartment of 50 square meters in central Copenhagen it would cost you at least 1000 $ pr month. A decent dinner cost 20 $ if you cook it yourself. (two persons). Other than that Denmark is a wonderful place to live except the wheather, and the taxes are high, but you get a lot! You get paid to study, in fact we get 600-700 $ pr month by the goverment if we are studying. Free health care, free schools and the crime rate is very low.

Your two-word summary of the cost of living here in Oslo is spot on: "thats crazy". Haha! Yes, it is crazy expensive here. Im talking $10 beers, $20 cheeseburgers, etc. etc. Oh and 25% VAT on everything (in addition to steep income taxes).

As far as what you get for your tax dollars (or kroner I should say), its pretty similar to Denmark. Technically, health care isnt free as you pay about $30 per doctors visit (more for specialists), but it is capped at somewhere around $1000/yr and then its 100% covered.

So, the salaries might be higher on average, but its necessary here or else most people would barely be scraping by.

Yes they never take into account the cost of living/taxes/healthcare etc.. that makes a huge difference.

Hi there, i live in Sydney and i can tell you we are the property bubble capital of the world.

lol I feel you. I used to live in NY.

The cost of living here is ridiculous, prices of everything just keeps going up and the gruberment is always looking for more money to steal. Other than that its a great place to live.

Good job with this post! Keep it up

Zurich, Switzerland, with an average per capita income of $ 5876 per month.

That would be the average yearly income where I live.

but how does the cost of living compare, higher income does not mean higher standard of living.

The cost of living is pretty low. You could easily get by with around 300$ a month. :)

A city that is very great.
Always make progress not a setback. It has attitude that always wants above, although has many rivals.

  • Load burden has also occurred since then and many more will come. Income grows in power.!
  • All for one and one for all.!

Thanks for sharing joseph
Good luck 🖒

It's really about the purchasing power of your currency.images-6.jpg

I'm surprised Dubai didn't make the list, average income there is 4,250.

I lived in San Francisco for a while. The shame is that the cost of living is SO HIGH most of people's money goes straight to the landlord for rent. Anyone who doesn't work in the tech industry is slowly getting pushed out and away from the city just so that they can have a higher standard of living... so that they can actually afford rent AND utilities AND clothes AND maybe to eat at a restaurant from time to time. (That's why I moved to Sacramento!)

Nice :)

Very interesting post!

I been to Zurich but never lived there... Have been to Oslo... nice and expensive city.. Scandinavian countries are more expensive than other European countries.

Norway is more expensive than Sweden.. i saw people going to Sweden to buy things from Oslo... Folks would be amazed to know that Cigarettes are even sell in black (illegal) 😆

I cannot believe the police state city of #Oshawa I live in, is not on this list LOL!

Go #Liberty

  • have a good end to your week @joseph

I work in Luxembourg city. I do not know the average there, but of the country is about 4200€ (about 4550$). A pretty solid number, but the other side of the story is that housing is pretty expensive. Standard flats can cost you between 1500€ and 2000€ per month rent.

I'm surprised that $4k in NYC is the average. I know a good amount of millennials in NYC, having worked for years and are living on far less.

I'm on number 9 and kind of don't like to be there.

Mmmm.. Denmark looks perfect. I found that as of May 2015, the average monthly net salary in Zagreb was 6,669 kuna, about €870 (Croatian average is 5,679 kuna, about €740).

IMHO, other factors such as crime rates should be evaluated in addition to per capita income. For instance, "Thousands Flee Chicago For Safer Areas Of The Country As America’s Third Largest City Becomes A Gang-Infested Wasteland," by Michael Snyder (the Economic Collapse Blog) on May 8th, 2017. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/thousands-flee-chicago-for-safer-areas-of-the-country-as-americas-third-largest-city-becomes-a-gang-infested-wasteland
