Questioning the torah.

in torah •  5 years ago

My mindset is to follow the entire Bible and not just the first five book of the bible. The torah is also know as the Mosaic law (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Moses). The Bible says that whoevever tries to live by the law will be placed under the curse of the law. (Galatians 3:10 Listen, whoever seeks to be righteous by following certain works of the law actually falls under the law’s curse. I’m giving it to you straight from Scripture because it is as true now as when it was written: “Cursed is everyone who doesn’t live by and do all that is written in the law.”)... end scripture... So the question becomes what should be done with the law and why was it given to us in the first place? The Bible answers thoes two questions in (Galatians 3:19 Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people.)... end scripture... The torah (the Mosaic law) had an expiration date. So when JESUS came, the 613 mitzvot (commandments) were fulfilled. (www.jewfaq.org/613.htm) A brief look at the list makes me realize that I am certain that JESUS did not follow all of the commands (Luke 11:38 The Pharisee was offended that Jesus didn’t perform the ceremonial handwashing before eating—something Pharisees were fastidious about doing.)... end of the scripture... But do not think that JESUS simply erased rules...instead HE summerized the laws into a easy to remember phrase ( John 13:34-35 New International Version (NIV) 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”) .... end of the scripture... So I the only parts of torah that I try to keep are the parts of the torah that JESUS taught me to do. What parts of torah do you try to keep, and why?

As far as I know there has never been a commandment to wash your hands before eating. The pharisees had a lot of their own commandments, which did even contradict the true law of the Torah.

Mark 7:9 "And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."

You are right, I am not well versed in all of the language but the pharisees had turned Biblical commands into a list of rules. They were experts at following the rules, but their hearts had not been changed...and thats what GOD wants. I think that at first the motives were pure, but over time mans rules were followed and GOD's rules were cast by the way side.

I am providing a list of the rules that mankind thought that they should focous on: http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm

An example that I like to use to point to the fact that the man made rules only changed the outside of a man (and GOD wanted the inside of mankind to be clean)

We know that GOD wants us to keep the Sabbath day Holy, and the genneral thought is to not work on the Sabbath, and some people considered walking to be 'work'. In the Jewish way of thinking a person was not allowed to walk 'X' number of steps from his property. So what was done was a rope was strung up and as long as the person stayed close to that rope then he never 'officialy' left his property.

So when JESUS called them "White warshed tombs" Matthew 23:27 it was quite accurate.

GOD does not want people to only change on the outside, are hearts need to be changed also...thanks for the comment!
