The “Invasion” of the Data Age

In the past three decades, we have entered the digital age from the material and the analog signal age with the development of the Internet. In this context, informatization and digitalization have gradually become the wave that sweeps over everything, and they have pervasively changed the production mode of existing industries in human society. Today, with digitalization, data has also entered into daily production and life as a product of the times that cannot be ignored.

As of 2010, we have created more than 1ZB of data, and this figure has doubled 16 times in just 6 years. According to the forecast, we may generate more than 160ZB of data by 2025. It means that the impact of data will continue to expand in the future of economic life and will affect every business, government agency and individual.

In fact, data is a quite strategic asset. In the digital era, data is even gradually forming a digital world independent of the physical world. However, the value of data today is not fully exploited.

According to a report by Mary Meeker, the Queen of the Internet, about 7% of the data we currently generate can be stored, but only 1% can be used for analysis, while the rest can only be destroyed, discarded or put aside.

The main reason for this phenomenon is that the growth rate of centralized data storage and analysis computing power lags far behind the growth rate of the data itself, and the current cost of centralized computing power is too high.

Therefore, if we want to fully exploit the value of data, we have to rely on distributed and decentralized computing architectures to integrate more decentralized storage and computation.

In essence, blockchain can be regarded as a data storage technology that can utilize the disk space on each machine via the Internet to consolidate scattered storage resources into a virtual storage device to achieve decentralized storage on a global scale.

Compared with traditional storage methods, blockchain storage technology is more scalable. And with the development of storage technology, the distributed data storage capacity, system reliability, availability and access efficiency are continuously improving. Therefore, the practical application areas of blockchain storage technology are becoming more and more extensive, and the scale advantage of centralized cloud services will gradually be replaced by decentralized cloud services.

Torah, which we are going to introduce, is a decentralized storage eco-application public chain that can realize distributed energy management.

Torah = Energy Management + Decentralized Storage

Torah was created in 2019 and initially developed by the Distributed Technology Lab in Silicon Valley.Torah is positioned as the world’s first decentralized storage ecological application public chain that empowers distributed energy management. It is dedicated to combining distributed and intelligent contract system functions to establish distributed energy trading, data management, information security and other scenarios, thus providing a strong technical guarantee for distributed energy sharing, ultimately achieving crypto carbon neutrality, energy saving and emission reduction, and promoting global energy management.

Meanwhile, Torah utilizes 5G, privacy computing, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, big data, blockchain and other technologies to improve the efficiency and application value of data storage and dissemination by recording and tracking carbon consumption, and to meet the energy needs of the new era.

Based on Proof of Data interaction (POD) and Vortex protocol, Torah provides sufficient, reliable, low-cost and low-latency computing and storage capabilities through the convergence of storage and computation, increasing access network nodes, reducing access power consumption, and increasing access speed.

As a data storage platform, Torah combines distributed and smart contract system functions to distribute energy transactions while maintaining a fairly high level of data security. It is dedicated to breaking through many of the limitations of PoC, providing powerful incentives for miners on the one hand, and end-to-end quality low-cost storage and network acceleration solutions for users on the other.

Torah’s system architecture consists of three main aspects: consensus mechanism, spatio-temporal proof and vortex protocol. torah ensures data consistency and integrity through its consensus mechanism; reduces cloud storage costs and solves the problems of opaque centralized operational management structure, system trust and data security through spatio-temporal proof; and optimizes storage using vortex protocol.

All of these together make up the Torah protocol — a next-generation blockchain-based data storage platform that Torah may address the long-term sustainability of blockchain technology in an increasingly energy-conscious world.

POD data interaction proof

POD, known as Proof of Data interaction, combines POC (Proof of Capacity) technology to optimize the entire process of data storage. pod slices, encrypts, and decentralizes the stored data files at each vortex node, and at the same time, through the aggregation of vortex nodes, crosses each valid data write and read.

The main scope of application of POD data interaction proof lies in massively parallel processing database, data mining, data analysis, distributed storage system, cloud computing platform, flexible and scalable storage system, etc. The key problem it solves is how to cope with the huge amount of big data with extremely weak arithmetic power.

In general common sense, the computing power of home computers is usually difficult to match with big data. After all, the more data there is, the more arithmetic power is required, and the higher the performance requirements of the computer. That’s why as the blockchain grows, so do the requirements for specialized equipment and computing power.

POD, on the other hand, does the opposite, using a single computer as a node on the data network to process the massive amount of big data in a distributed structure, thus allowing tens of thousands of computer devices to participate in data interaction and become part of the node network, ultimately making the cost of data storage much lower.

From the above description, it is easy to find that POD data interaction proves to have high efficiency, wide coverage, high transmission rate and low cost. It can help enterprises and organizations reduce costs, improve efficiency, and increase system scalability and performance by combining blockchain technology and hardware. Thus, it can solve the problem of proliferation of data leakage and finally realize the return of value of data resources and the breakthrough of distributed storage technology.

Of course, POD is just a framework, a new way of benefit distribution, and if we hope to maximize its effect, we still have to return to the technical origin and match with it through distributed technology.

Vortex protocol (Vortex protocol)

The vortex protocol was designed by Torah itself and it is an iteration of the traditional distributed storage approach. When uploading data, the vortex protocol selects resources among the accessed data, such as; time, bandwidth, storage and other elements. Performance improvements are also made to increase the longitudinal interaction of data to achieve the goal of optimal access to decentralized data.

The vortex protocol will also adjust the yield according to the storage volume and parse discrete data in containers in advance to make full use of the incentive of blockchain to improve storage quality, increase storage space and reduce costs.

The vortex protocol uses the basic structure of C60 as its core and adopts the idea of partial storage. In this model, data can be selected near the node with the most complete resources and sent to the requesting node to bypass a large number of gateways that restrict access, thus saving storage space and resources and ensuring a fixed value to stabilize the stored content as well as the fault tolerance of the stored content.

This means that with the vortex protocol, the value of more data can be driven by using only a very small amount of arithmetic power, thus driving a virtuous ecological cycle.

Token Economy

VP (Vortex Protocol) is the only officially designated circulating token for Torah with a total supply of 102,400,000 tokens, of which 2,400,000 tokens will be rewarded as a proof-of-time contest. The specific allocation percentage of this token is shown below.

  1. Founding Team: 3%

10 years of linear release, with 10% of the amount released each year to be used as a linear reward for the founding team.

  1. Development Fund: 3%

Through community voting, no more than 20% of the annual quota will be used to discover more quality innovative products under the Torah ecology.

  1. Investment Institutions: 1%

5-year linear release of 20% of the quota per year.

4、Upgrading R&D: 3%

Released as planned, with no more than 10% of the quota per year to be used for subsequent technical R&D, supporting software development, and product hardware expansion and upgrade in the Torah ecosystem.

  1. Incentive Tier: 90%

This portion of tokens will be allocated to miners through arithmetic, a move that helps reflect the scarcity of Torah’s value.

From the above distribution ratio, we can see that VP Token has an indispensable and unique position in the Torah ecology. VP, as the carrier of value transfer in the Torah ecology, not only facilitates the value flow of the entire Torah ecology, but also serves as the proof of ownership for Torah users. Through the cycle of VP Token, the whole Torah ecology will develop in the direction of low carbon and energy saving, more environmental protection, healthier and more valuable.

Conclusion

We have briefly introduced Torah’s basic profile and core technologies above, and I clearly perceive that Torah is a project with a strong sense of purpose. Everything in its design is focused on three major issues.

  1. storage cost

2, storage efficiency issues

3, storage energy consumption problems

In order to solve these unresolved problems, Torah innovatively introduced the POD data interaction proof and Vortex protocol, and combined the two to maximize data efficiency in the context of low cost and low energy consumption.

Thanks to Torah’s innovation and efforts, consensus validation and transaction deposition can be realized, and even home computers will be able to participate in the construction of big data afterwards, and the insignificant computing power can also participate in the work and be rewarded.

Lower transaction costs will undoubtedly help achieve widespread popularity of blockchain and give everyone the opportunity to obtain higher value.

At the same time, the crypto energy consumption problem also sees an opportunity to be solved.

Torah’s vortex protocol and POD consensus can achieve effective use of less arithmetic power, allowing data to generate value while solving the global problem of high blockchain energy consumption. It avoids a lot of wasted incentive layer resources, shortens the consensus reaching cycle, has a higher security factor, and is therefore more suitable for the modern business environment.

However, Torah is still in a rather early stage, and the degree of landing is not enough, while its large number of innovations and ideas also undoubtedly need a lot of polishing and practice. The challenges of the general environment are also too difficult to ignore.

Even so, Torah is still quite promising, most intuitively because it has been doing something and is getting results. Let’s stay tuned to its development in the future.
