CAPACITIVE TOUCH PANELS: Work by sending a small charge into your fingertip completing the circuit. That distortion is tracked and the coordinates of the mouse cursor on the screen move in tangent with your fingertip. This is how most screens on cell phones and mouse pads on laptops work.

Most consumer laptops are now made in China with cheap plastic parts that have poor reliability. They REALLY do not make them like they used to...
