Yavuz Sultan Selim lived in the city as Flag Ruler when he was a prince.
What is a "flag ruler"? Never heard this term before

Thank you. Ottoman provinces were divided into districts governed by sanjakbeys. He was a "sanjak bey" (lord of a flag) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjak-bey

I guess the author has mistranslated. :)) In Turkish the title is "Sancak beyi" and direct translation is flag for "Sancak" and master/ruler for "Bey" and "i" is the suffix. But those times minor/average cities were called "Sancak" too. Actually the suitable translation is "governor". ;)
