1. Mandarmani
Mandarmani is a seaside village in West Bengal with plenty of resorts. It's about 175 kms from Kolkata and can be reached in just a 4-hour drive. When you reach there, start with exploring the beautiful beach. Then, take a walk up to the Mandarmani delta, at the end of Mohana beach and witness probably one of the most beautiful sunsets in your life. If you want to take something back with you as souvenir, crabs, fresh fish and sea shells are excellent choices. If you are at the beach, don't miss the sea food here. Every resort nearby serves prawns and crabs.
2. Sundarbans
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the name Sundarbans translates to "beautiful forests" These forests are truly the epitome of natural beauty. They are approximately 100 kms or 2 hours' drive from Kolkata. With just a ₹60ticket, you get to experience the very lap of nature. Hop on to a boat for a safari, and with some luck, you might just catch a glimpse of the Royal Bengal tiger. The forest has lot of watch towers, from where you can sight wildlife. Make sure you visit Sudhanyakhali and Dobankhi watch towers. If you have plans for the entire weekend, visit the nearby local market and buy some beautiful local handicrafts for yourself.
3. Bakkhali
Bakkhali is one of the many deltaic islands spread across the coast of southern Bengal. It is about 120 kms from Kolkata, so just a 4 hours' drive. This is one of the very few islands that offers great views of the sunrise and sunset. The walk from Bakkhali beach to Frasergunj is a very soothing experience. After the walk, make it a point to visit Henry Island, which is about 10 minutes away and is one of the most scenic and natural places in Bengal. Don't forget to visit the watch tower here as well.
