Çirkin şansı dedikleri tabir muhtemelen Hephaistos’tan kaynaklanır. Sahiden de şanslı bir tanrıydı. Güzellik ve aşk tanrıçası olan Afrodit’le evliydi. Ölümsüzlerin dahi en güzeli olan tanrıçanın, en yakışıklı tanrıyla evli olduğunu zannederseniz yanılırsınız. Çünkü o tanrıların en çirkini ve aynı zamanda topal olan ateş ve demircilerin tanrısı Hephaistos ile evliydi.

Poseidon’un araya girmesi yüzünden midir yoksa Olympos tanrılarının alayları karşısında kendini kötü hissetmesinden midir bilinmez. Hephaistos Afrodit’i affetti ve iki aşığı kurduğu tuzaktan kurtarıp serbest bıraktı.

Nine days and nine nights later Hephaistos fell into the sea and was rescued by the ocean gods. The gods have kept him in a cave under the sea for nine years. Hephaistos learned his art in this cave.

Hephaistos was the god of fire, especially the miners and the craftsmen. He could do every work. He had the ability to create everything that could come to mind. It is said that he created the first woman, Pandora, from the kilt.

Hephaistos, who was extremely intelligent and resourceful, was the only foulness that occurred as a result of ugliness and fall from the sky. Sometimes he would have been quite a mockery of other gods. He was known as a husband of Aphrodite, as a craftsman and as a god. And according to the rumors, Aphrodite's infidelity was often at the forefront in their marriage.

When Hephaistos was recognized as one of the twelve gods on the Mount of Olympos, he also made peace with his mother. When he fell in love with Aphrodite, the extraordinary beauty he had seen here, he begged his mother to marry with her. Hera, at this request of his son, convinced Zeus to get them married. However, Aphrodite's idea has not been asked in this marriage, and there is no chance to choose for her. Their weddings were made, but this unrequited love was marriage based on infidelity.

Because of her being a god of love, Aphrodite was due to her nature to infatuate her love and affection. Therefore, we can connect to the creation of infidelity which he showed in his marriage. She had cheated Hephaistos many times over his marriage, but the most famous was the relationship with Hephaistos' stepbrother Ares, god of war.

Although Aphrodite had a very passionate and secret relationship with Ares, the relationship became clear after a while. Hephaistos learned that Aphrodite had deceived himself, burned with revenge fire. So, he made a huge golden net that only he could afford. He hung the net to hide it on Aphrodite's bed. Then he told his wife that he would go somewhere and went out. As soon as her husband went out, Aphrodite called her lover Ares. When they entered the bed, Hephaistos' gold net fell on them. Being trapped naked, the lovers were desperately waiting for someone to come and rescue them. They knew that Hephaistos was the only one who could save them.

When Hephaistos returned, he brought along other gods of Olympus for witnessing this immorality. The gods react and ridicule the situation where they have two abuses, but at the same time they are taunted by the embarrassing situation of Hephaistos.

Poseidon, the god of the seas, looked at his native Aphrodite and pity her. He was appealing to Hephaistos to forgive his wife and reconcile with her. It is not known whether Poseidon interferes with or whether it feels bad against the regiments of Olympus gods. Hephaistos forgave Aphrodite and saved two lovers from the trap he had set up and released them.
