ABD'li Bilim adamlarının uzun ve yoğun süren çalışmalarının ardından 1946 yılında ENIAC adını verdikleri bilgisayar ilk bilgisayar olarak kayıtlarda görülmektedir.
ENIAC 167 metrekarelik bir alan kaplıyordu ve ağırlığı ise yaklaşık 30 ton civarına idi.
Bu bilgisayar ABD silahlı kuvvetlerinin top atışlarının hesaplanmasında yardımcı olabilmesi amacı ile ordu desteği sağlanarak ortaya çıkarılmıştır. ENIAC 1955 yılına kadar kullanılmaya devam etmiştir.
