Fotoğraftaki gibi büyük yuvalarda yaşayan kırmızı orman karıncaları, ormana zarar veren böcekleri temizliyorlar. Zararlı böcekleri, karıncalar salgıladıkları formik asitle etkisiz hale getiriyor. Bu karıncalar toprak altına yuva yapmayıp toprak üzerine yuva yapıyorlar. Ortalama büyüklükteki bir yuva 30-40 dekar alandaki kene dahil zararlı böcekleri temizliyorlar.

Hocam ne yalan söyleyim hiç dikkatimi çekmemişti. Hele ki yerin üstünde yuva kurduklarını da ilk defa görüyorum.
