Ülkemizde çok sevilen güvercinler de bizi seviyor olsa gerek ki insanlarla iç içe yaşamayı tercih ediyorlar. Yuvaları da genelde evlerimize yakın yerlerde oluyor.
Bu fotoğrafı Dalyan'a gittiğim sırada çekmiştim. Aslında amacım ; yanlarına yaklaşınca uçup gidecekleri için kanat cirparken ve minik ayakarı görünürken ki hallerini fotoğraflamakti. Beni gordukleri halde sanki yokmusum gibi davranip ortada biraz gezdikten sonra cimenlerin kenarindaki yemlerini yediler. Bende daha fazla rahatsızlık vermemek için yanlarından uzaklaştım.
Güvercinler ; kafalarinin icinde bulunan özel bir manyetik özellik sayesinde, çok uzak yerlerden bile yönlerini kolayca bulabilirler. Posta guvercinlerinin dogru yone dogru ucmalari hep bu sebeptendir.Halk arasında büyük türlerine güvercin küçük türlerine kumru denir. Yaşadığı bölgeye göre 300 den fazla türleri vardır. Barışın simgesi olan güvercinler bir çok yerde kutsal sayildiklari için avlanmazlar. Kolay evcillestirildigi için evlerinde güvercin besleyenlerin sayısı oldukça fazladır. Bazı DNA araştırmacılarına göre soyu tükenen dodo kuşları ile akrabaliklari vardır.
