Scientists and researchers agree that the word Turkey comes from Italian. Professor Dr. İlber Ortaylı has wrote an article and says that the Genoese and Venetian merchants and diplomats, in the 12th century, Turkey and specifies what they describe as Turchia or Turmeni. Moreover, Turkey is a name for the first time in written sources in 1190, it passes crusade chronicles experimental stages.

Professor Dr. Abdulhaluk Çay takes the Turchia definition farther back and says Turchia was first encountered in the Byzantine sources in the 6th century and says, "This phrase was used for the field from the Idil / Volga river to Central Europe during the 9th and 10th centuries." Thanks for your posts. I am going to visit Istanbul and Cappadocia in a few months so I'd like to explore Turkish culture before I go there to get a maximum experience and pleasure from discovering a new country.
