Emel Sayin was born November 20, 1940 in Sivas.
She is the oldest child of a family with four daughters. At the age of thirteen she began to take music lessons from Arif Sami Toker. She is considered to be the most famous and talented artist that Toker has cultivated. Three years Münir Nurettin continued his music education by taking lessons from Selçuk. After graduating from Keşan Middle School and Çapa High School, she took lessons from Alex Rosenthal, a chef who had taught at Münir Nurettin Selçuk in France during the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory (Beşiktaş) Singing Department for three years. She stuied solfege lessons from Muhittin Sadak also in the meantime, in the competition opened by Hürriyet News Agency, Münir Nurettin was selected as 'Voice Queen' by reading a heavy classical belonging to Selçuk.

At the age of 17, she attended the Ankara Youth Park for the first time in Necdet Yazar's bars. In 1963, she entered Ankara Radio as an exam soloist and served for about seven years. With the proposal of artist Egemen Bostanci, who won the stage experience in front of the audience in Ankara, she was transferred to the Istanbul music market and started performing as an assolist in Lalezâr bar. In the meantime, Istanbul Radio passed and settled in Istanbul.
Emel Sayin, who has been in an intense working period with her going to Istanbul, has also appeared in motion picture films as well as many music albums. In 2001, she starred in TV series Aşkım Aşkım with Mehmet Ali Erbil.
