The German BMW is working hard on a new generation of electric cars under the iNext concept. According to BMW, the electric car of the car brand can become a real Tesla-Killer. The German car brand wants to launch the iNext by 2021 and thus overtake Mercedes as the largest manufacturer of luxury cars in the world.
At the Detroit auto show, BMW announced that the iNext can cover a distance of no less than 700 kilometers with a charge. This is almost twice as much as a Tesla can currently make. With this, BMW would also solve one of the biggest obstacles to the adaptation of electric vehicles.
The iNext would also have a Level 3 capacity for autonomous vehicles. This means that the car can drive autonomously in almost all circumstances, but that the driver must be alert at all times to take over the wheel. In 2022, however, BMW would like to upgrade to Level 4. In that case, the driver's attention is no longer required.
BMW wants to be the biggest back
In addition, the iNext will also have a 'Boost Mode' where tips are projected on the windshield to drive better.
BMW wants to position itself with the iNext generation of electric vehicles in the coming years as one of the leading car brands in the field of autonomous and electric driving. Although electric cars are only a small part of the market, BMW still wants to play a leading role in this segment. It could even make BMW the largest producer of luxury cars in the world.
