"I am an expert," a man proclaimed. "Lend me your ears and I shall guide you."
No one paid him any attention, so he repeated himself, louder the next time.
Still, no one listened to his announcement. So, he repeated it again, shouting even louder.
"Why won't anybody listen to me?" he asked solemnly. "I am confused, and I don't know why this is happening."

All of a sudden, several people encircled him, each proclaiming they knew the answer.

Since I gave such a long exposition yesterday, I won't give the answer away this time around. Just a reminder though, don't take it literally. Think of how the realization would apply to driving peeves or traffic violations. Don't ask about it in the comments section. Just share your tale, and I'll reply if you got it right. In any case, no story is wasted, because if you make a mistake, you can reuse it in a future koan that it would apply more appropriately to. The important thing is to just share your stories. That's the most zen thing you can do in this situation.

I'm not a cruel person, so I'll give you a clue. This one is more of a peeve than a violation. In fact, this one is often used to aid you, but when used against you, it does more harm than good. I know that you can figure this out. Look to the story, and don't be blinded by literal interpretations. Think about what befell the man who was a self-proclaimed expert. Lower your guard, and eventually you'll see the light.

If there would be no correct answers, no one would be a winner for this day and the slot would be reserved for a wild card. 15+ SBD is on the line, people. I know it might not be much for some, but for others it could go a long way. Share this opportunity to them so that they could have a chance to earn.

I forgot to mention it before, but for people who have some money to spare and they want to add to the prize pool, feel free to do so. I would very much appreciate any donation to increase the prize given to the winners. Please contact me in the comments section or on chat :D

Looking forward to all of your entries!

At first I thought this was a satnav blithering its biggest away although the encircling bit confused me for that. Then with the hints I thought it must be headlights on full beam! Then I thought, hmm, is it? It is it an annoying honker? The last line still confuses me though.

Tough stuff dude!!!

Then with the hints I thought it must be headlights on full beam!

BANG!

Haha! Thast last line. Ugh! It was more trouble than it was worth. I shouldn't have just included that. I just felt like the koan wasn't complete without it.

Not that much participation on this contest. Perhaps the difficulty is turning people? Perhaps people aren't keen on winning money anymore?

Anyway, I truly appreciate the support, Boomdawg! You da real expert :D

I don't think anyone wants money anymore. It's so uncouth!!! ;0)

SBD is soooo 2016, we must look to the future! BoomTokens all around!

BoomTokens underwritten by the jedchain!! A formal joining of greatness!!!

There can be no other way! Greatness is not easily contained!

I know we're just fooling around with the idea, but with the advent of EOS, who knows! This might be closer to reality haha!

It will be àm exciting to see what arises from Eos, the possibilities are endless!

I'm excited to see EOS (the token) rise to heights unimaginable haha! What with the stockpile I had built up haha!

On my final day way to become a dirving expert my driving instructor picked me up to give me my final driving lesson and right after that the driving exam began. I was so tense that I made one mistake after the other, with the culminating one: stopping abruptly in front of pedestrian crossing to let some pedestrians cross. I hit the brake so impetuosly that the examinator nearly bumped into my head. "It's all over now, I surely failed," I thought. Parked after that hour of intense torment, I waited for the final judgement.
"I'll let you pass," the instructor sid calmly, "but you should check the rear mirror more often." I couldn't believe it, so sure I was I'd fail.

You caught a lucky break, my friend! Perhaps the instructor was being lenient since you were still a beginner. I think they grade based on potential at that point, and it's great that he saw the potential to be a great driver in you. Way to prove him right!

When I was 20 years old, I drove cross country from Virginia to California. I bought the car (1981 Chevy Malibu) for $425 a few days before I left. The night I left Virginia, I hit a bump and the headlights went out. For the rest of the evening I had two options, either parking lights (one white, one yellow) or headlights (one up, one down). When I made it into Tennessee, I hit another bump and the headlights came back on. They continued to go off intermittently throughout the trip. That was one of many car problems I faced on that adventure. I'll save the others for later, they may apply to other koans. :D

When I was 20 years old, the longest I've ever driven was from my home in the province to the city. I couldn't imagine what it must've been like to drive cross country, considering my whole country is significantly smaller than Texas haha!

That's such an awesome story with the headlights!! Haha! What a great coincidence! One would think it was lifted directly from fiction haha! It's like when the remote control isn't working and you bump it to rejuvenate it haha!

Great, great, great! Thanks for sharing your story, my friend! :D

That's amazing. Now I've got to go find out how big the Philippines are. Driving through Texas and making repairs were the longest parts of that trip. It was definitely a loose connection like with the remote control. If I'd figured it out sooner, I like to think I would have aimed for the potholes until it came on. LOL

Glad you enjoyed it.

Haha! That would've been awesome if you arrive at the realization earlier! Would've been weird for other cars to see it unfold haha!

That would have been helpful. Oh, man. Can you imagine what that would have looked like? lol!!

Haha! I imagine it's like an insane person purposefully headbutting a wall to regain his sanity hahaha!

Sorry if I have misinterpreted what you are asking here, but my understanding of the Koan, where it leads my thinking to, traffic wise is:

The expert is the good driver, doing everything well. Creating no problems. And being ignored as a result. He has an accident (doesn't understand...) and then people notice him. Offer to assist him.

Now that is NOT a peeve, so I'm guessing its not what you meant. But its where my mind went.

Haha sorry to say that it's wrong, brother. You know, I think that's influenced by how much you know me, as I feel your interpretation applies more to me haha! I do appreciate it, and I'm happy that our friendship is at that level.

"Expert", "advice" all of there are superficial. I guess what I'm trying to point at is how people can proclaim themselves as a shining example. Sometimes they can be blinded by their own self-praise. If everyone would just lower themselves or how they think of themselves, everyone would have a clearer view of what's ahead of them.

Admittedly, the koan was rushed, so the interpretation is a bit hazy. I'm surprised if anyone would get this, that's why I'm providing a lot of buzzword clues.

Oooh been thinking about this one for ages now!!

At first I thought it might be to do with running red lights... but then I remembered you said it was a peeve, not a violation.

Then I thought, is it when people have their full headlights switched on when there is oncoming traffic? Hmmmm, I couldn't make this fit with what happens at the end of the koan though...

My final answer is this:

It's when people stop to let traffic through... and they flash their lights. First of all no one does what they say, because often in these situations when a car flashes to let you cross or whatever, there's other traffic in the way. Now, because this car has stopped to let someone in or cross, suddenly a whole bunch of traffic takes advantage and the original person is left sitting there waiting (as are all the other vehicles behind him)....

ENLIGHT... er, YOU HAD IT!! CHANGE YOUR ANSWER BACK HAHA!

Your final answer is for a different day in the future haha! That's aggravating, too, for sure. What made you say that you couldn't make it fit at the end of the koan? Is it because other people encircled the man?

Admittedly, this was a bit rushed. I didn't want people to take all of the events in the koan at face value, so I apologize for any confusion! You guessed it though! Great job! :D I'm surprised someone got it haha! Now, if you would be able to share an experience that dealt with this, that would be awesome!

Huzzah! but also Damn!!

Haha, cool! Er.. yeah I think it was the words 'All of a sudden,' on the last line that made me unsure about that guess. But I think I was just slipping into taking it too literally!

Hmmm... I don't think I've got a story to tell regarding this. I will keep on thinking though... if not I shall stay tuned for your next koans!

I plan on removing the 2-win limit, so feel free to post as much as you want. I want to paint the comments section with angering and funny stories, so I want to encourage people to just post.

Sorry for that last line, I'm regretting ever putting that. In my mind, it felt incomplete without it, but I didn't expect it to throw people for a loop.

Nice! Oh gosh, no apologies necessary!! It's always good to be made to think a little harder haha!

Unfortunately, other people doesn't seem to share your sentiment hahaha! Oh well, more money for you then if the trend continues :D

More fool them!! :)

Haha! I have almost given up in trying to convince people since they don't even read the contest details.

Alrighty... I'm not sure this really counts.... it's a story about headlights, but not quite in the right direction... But here it is anyway!

I was driving back from the shops one evening, (it was dark), when in front of me a man crossed the road. He was sauntering across without a care, despite me coming towards him. I couldn't believe the audacity of the guy! Not even pretending to hurry!

So I did a big, long beep on the horn and pulled a kind of what are you playing at, man? face.

He proceeded to get extremely angry and starting swearing and shouting at me as I drove past.

I was shocked and appalled.

Then I realised I didn't have my headlights on at all....

oops.

My bad...

Disclaimer.... this has never happened again, I'm a good driver really. :)

Ahahahaha!! This is a story for a different koan (or two)! I have to say, I'm quite guilty of this myself. I think I've forgotten about my headlights 2 to 3 times now. Thankfully, my car has auto headlights for that last time. But, for the first time, I think I drove more than 8 km in the highway and main business district haha! I do believe that lapse shouldn't affect of how we assess ourselves as drivers. I'm a good driver as well. How we assess ourselves as great observers is a different issue however.

Thanks for sharing that tale nonetheless, my friend! I'm so happy that people can be candid about this stuff here :)

Great campaign. Wish you more success.

Hey, man. I just want to remind you, as it seems like you didn't bother reading the contest details, that this is a contest with money to be won just by sharing a tale in the comments section. Since we live in the same country, I'm pretty sure that you've experienced the same things I would be talking about. Anyway, it would be a shame if the opportunity is wasted. Everyone has a legitimate shot to win, so I hope you consider participating.

You know what, you are right.. I never bothered to read the contest details. I am just happy that someone from my country is being active here and is actually doing some great strides in participating to a contest. Keep up!

Sure. I hope you take the time to join. The prize pool is only going to get bigger with time.
