Traffic Koans [Day 4]

This is Day 4 of my 30-day writing challenge. For contest details, please check it out here. Every koan is my original work.

traffic-koans

Every day, busy humans march along the paved road, going to where they need to be. Some move quickly, while the others move at a rather slow pace. No matter their speed, they try their best to not get in each other's way. Even though they are of different sizes, they could easily see one another and are able to avoid bumping into each other.

The same couldn't be said about cockroaches. Their ability to speed past humans, skittering carelessly in the space between one human and another, allows them to get to where they need to be quicker than their larger counterparts. They could fall in line in the large space afforded to them, but they don't bother doing so since they have the space to freely roam.

Thus, they have a shorter lifespan.

If humans are vehicles, then cockroaches are? This strictly applies to a third world setting, where drivers are less disciplined. I'm sure their first world counterparts are beyond the level of cockroaches. As it stands, if these cockroaches only followed basic safety, they could easily outlive any human and won't pose as big of a hazard. It's ironic since they're usually the smallest creatures on the paved road.

Oh man, if it is here then it is surely the scooter/bikers!! Zipping in and out and generally being a menace!!

Shorter lifespans indeed!!

ENLIGHTENED!!!

DING DING DING!!! WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!

You got it, dude! Those bikers who weave in and out of lanes do more harm than good. Oh, wait. They just do harm! Bumping into sidemirrors and clipping pedestrians. Ugh! Those guys are awful! And, when they do get bumped, they'll act like the victim, seeing as they're no match for the big mean car. Jeez!

There are some who do follow proper etiquette though. We surely can't discount them. But, the majority really drags the reputation down. I have seen a lot of dead bodies because of these actions. Once, I've seen brain matter splattered across the road. Not a pretty sight. Then again, he really shouldn't have weaved in front of a speeding truck.

Thanks for stopping by, dude! Your blockfolio app can indicate how much I appreciate it :D

Yeek, that would be a horrifying sight.

I hate them too. Just the other day I watched one zoom through red stop lights at a busy intersection and narrowly miss getting shared by a big car. I just thought, man oh man. Is there really such a need for hurry?

I am checking blockfolio now!!

They will never learn until something terrible happens. Too bad for them that they only get one or two major terrible things. Really though, if the government becomes more strict about handing over licenses, then the roads would be so much safer.

They are quite strict here and it is still ridiculous

Gah! The human need for anarchy might just be too much for laws to contain.

Motorcycles! Or something of the motorized two wheel variety.

We don't have too much trouble in NY with that, but I hear in California you take your life in your hands if you get on the highway on a motorbike because larger vehicles take no notice of you. And if you are a shitty unobservant cyclist, with poor driving skills, well then you take your life and the lives of others in your hands.

ENLIGHTENED!!!

You got it, sister! I know you and Howie use a similar mode of transportation, though I think big bikes belong to a separate category, that's why I really wanted to point out the distinction between the different types. I'm specifically referring to the ones who weave in and out between lanes. So, you guys are most definitely not in that category :D

Some people are just so reckless. If they don't have a high regard of their lives, at least spare others from the pain they cause. It's ironic how little they are on the road and yet they cause a lot of collateral damage. You can read my reply to Boomdawg if you want to read some gruesome examples.

In any case, I'm just glad for motorists like you and Howie. I just wish more people follow your example in observing proper etiquette. Thanks for stopping by! You support means the world :D

I once got a ride from some cockroach from the, well I don't know, I guess it was second world. Right on the highway with 2 lanes. Right at the beginning he started slaloming between both lanes. When I saw that, I thought, "Oh, if I already have to die, I'd like to die sleeping." And, I fell asleep right away. Surprisingly, I woke up intact just when we arrived at the toll station.

Haha! That's an awesome story! How were you able to sleep while still hanging on? That's already a feat right there!

No idea, I just instantly fell asleep and woke up precisely when we stopped at the toll station.

That's some solid grip you have there!

This one rings a sad song in my heart. For two reasons:

  1. I've loved and lost a couple biker friends to motorcycle accidents.
  2. The accidents could have been prevented by my friends, if they had applied basic safety to their riding.

America is a country big on biking. For example, Sturgis is the event of the year: http://sturgismotorcyclerally.com/. All along the highways sit billboards advertising all manner of local items. Sprinkled along the billboards are PSAs, including the traffic reminders like "Watch for Motorcycles." I can't help but wonder: where are the "Motorcyclists Observe Traffic Rules" PSAs? You know, something that speaks directly to motorcyclists who share the roads with much larger vehicles that have blind spots that can hide full-sized automobiles.

Basing off stories and what I watch on TV and movies, I could easily say that the bikers there belong on a whole different plane from the bikers here. The bikers here are much closer to those in Vietnam, etc--more reckless and have less discipline. Bikers there, I think, are more organized and commands more respect. Maybe the difference lies in the way they carry themselves. I'm not so sure. If you ever get a chance to see the types of motorbikers here, you'll immediately know what I'm saying.

I've seen a couple shows and can visualize the differences. :D In any country, motorcycle recklessness is mind-blowing. Unless there are a lot of people with death wishes...which could be!!

It could be! I mean, it doesn't stray from the truth. It boils down to discipline no matter where you are, it seems.

This. 100% this.

I'm glad we agree!

We all are cockroaches doing the shit throughout our life.

LOL I wouldn't say all of us. As a matter in fact, I don't consider myself as a cockroach at all haha!

By the way, this is a contest with SBD to be won, just in case you're interested.

Yes I am interested and how to win?

You can read about the contest details if you read the post.

I left it in the half because I was not getting anything out of it, can you please explain in a shot?

First, read the koan, then try to interpret what traffic violation it's talking about. After you have done so, share a story that happened to you or someone you which revolves around the same violation. Share that story in the comments section.

ok got it.

Sure.
