Trial by Comics winners for "Mythology" and new theme announced!

in trailbycomics •  6 years ago

Good evening, Steemians of the Comics Guild! We’re here to leave it all on the illustrative battlefield and find out who is the best. Last week’s them was appropriately, “Mythology”. When I think of Trail by Comics, I think of that colosseum scene from the end of season five of Game of Thrones. Where Drogon flies in to rescue Daenerys. Okay. Maybe that’s a little dramatic, but the “Mythology” theme embodied the battle and the myth perfectly. Without further adieu, here are the winners for “Mythology”!

FIRST PLACE!@akarantain is this week’s champion with the beautiful artwork created for her post "ATENEA"/Trial by Comics "Mythology”! If I’m not mistaken, this is @akarantain’s first time winning in Trial by Comics. Lovely, elegant lines and color in your rendition of Atenea. Congratulations! 25.000 SBD’s will be sent to you.

SECOND PLACE! @eliu claims the second place prize this week with his entry, “Perseus trialbycomcs entry#3”. I am a sucker for the tale of Perseus versus Medusa. This is great art and reflects everything I love about comic illustration and story telling. This could easily be the last page of an epic Greek mythology comic. Congratulations! 10.000 SBD’s coming to you.

THIRD PLACE! @alxledante is third on the podium this week with his entry, “Trial by comics - Mythology theme - Mictlantecuhtl”. This entry isn’t exactly what I had in mind for Trial by Comics, but that’s not a bad thing. I believe the medium is rendered in digital CG, but one of my favorite comics has always been Sandman, which bends the conventional mediums of what a comic could be. It’s also so beautiful, I couldn’t pass on it. Congratulations! 5.000 SBD’s coming your way.

MERIT AWARDS! Each week, the talent that floods the #trailbycomics hashtag sets me in to an endless, manic state of trying to pick only three winners. There were several outstanding entries for “Mythology”, and I’d be remiss to not mention a few of the merit entries that didn’t make it in the top three, but nonetheless showcased the talent of the weekly Trial by Comics participants. Have a look and give a follow to all of this illustrators and painters!

Trial by Comics new theme is “War”

War is a general topic, but it’s an ugly part of human nature and it’s been used for political and personal gain, dramatic flair and told through countless mediums of art for thousands of years. I’m not restricting an era or specific battle. Your interpretation doesn’t even have to be rooted in reality. Space wars, ancient wars, fiction or non-fiction. What I’m going to be looking for is the most difficult parts of war to capture. Moments of agonizing heartbreak on the small scale, and hundreds or thousands of individuals functioning as a single unit, or the large scale. There’s a lot of potential for this theme. I’m really excited to see what the Steemit comic community can achieve here.

Deadline for “War” is Monday, September 30th 5:00UTC 12:00a.m. CTS

 Rules

• Up to three entries per trial round [weekly].

• Original artwork only [process documentation strongly encouraged]

• Winners will be chosen based on quality of work, submitted before deadline and ability to adhere to the weekly trial theme

• Must resteem the contest post you’re participating in

• Must include #trialbycomics hashtag

A big congratulations to @drwatson and @la-fumettista for reaching their fundraising goal on @fundition for “Ithaqa”. That is a truly inspirational achievement as an artist still crawling towards a self published, creator owned comic. The community should give themselves a pat on the back as well for helping to make that happen. It’s a wonderful precedent when talented creators coming to STEEM, @fundition and decentralized alternatives to breath life in to their projects.

A quick mention before I go, we do have an active and thriving community on Discord. Join the Trail by Comics Discord channel to be included on conversations about current or back issue comics, artists, writers. We have a channel specifically to promote your #trialbycomics entries, and another channel that is a free for all art and post promotion. Wow! I really love these entries. What great talent you are bringing together for this fun comic adventure. I love how diverse they are and how each bring it's own flair to the theme.

Great job @kommienezuspadt uniting the forces. I'm grateful I don't have to choose in my collaborative initiative. It's always difficult when the talent brings such great value. Thanks for sharing. Love what you're doing.

Thank you @everlove. I'm so happy you see #trailbycomics for the greater whole I hoped it would become. It's just an initiative started by a guy that loves comics, loves artists and loves Steemit. The work you and your team is doing is changing people's lives, so by comparison, this is just something for fun. I do love seeing the various platforms and communities that emerge here on Steemit. There's so much good on this blockchain and I feel fortunate to have found it so early.

Spreading joy and laughter is such an uplifting blessing. We can never have too much of that. If we all do our parts we can do incredible things, and building community on many levels will empower many. Glad you found your way to Steemit and that you're taking your role to heart. Thank you for benefitting the whole @kommienezuspadt.

After waiting impatiently to recharge my sp and post, finally! this is my entry:

Intense @juliensorel. I was wondering if we'd have a few entries that focused on the real hardships or an interpretation of the tragedies of Syria, Bosnia, Palestine, etc. Definitely moving. Thanks for entering.

Great work, @gooze! This looks great!

Thanks @kommienezuspadt i'll be working on my second entry with another style. and thanks for keeping the contest alive.

Congrats to the winners! There were some amazing pieces submitted! And I always love seeing so many different styles and interpretations of the theme.
This week’s theme should prove to be really varied as well. Can’t wait to see what people submit! I’ll be brainstorming over the weekend for sure.

Oh! I hope you're able to enter @offbeatbroad. Yeah. This theme has a wide range of inspiration. I'm not sure what we'll see but I'm excited for it.

Thank you, @bluemist! I love this contest. It's one of my favorite things about my time on Steemit.

killer jobs. Congratulations to the winners. @wfuneme

All nice picks, great art works.

My fav, followed @mister-omortson now.

That one was great, wasn't it @joythewanderer! You should be a special guest judge one of these weeks!

Sure it would be my pleasure :)

Good curation @kommienezuspadt as usual and first place is really first.
New theme is heavy one, complex and I think it will be interesting to see enters for it. Maybe even I will try out my skills :)) Just thinking...

Thank you @jungwatercolor! I'd love for you to enter. You're a great talent here on Steemit. It is a heavy theme but I hoped opening it up to space, underwater, fantasy or whatever would make it a little less sad. LOTR's had some outstanding wars and no one really died :P

Thank YOU :)
I follow your work a long time but somehow when I see such pro and good work as you do, I don't know what to say and feels so stupid to leave just - wow, great, love..etc..
I enjoy and upvote :)
Also thank you for widening idea about subject for next context. Being a painter sometimes can be thinking in different way than comic or photograph artist.
Hope I will manage @kommienezuspadt :)

Congratulations to the winners of last week, great tickets!
the theme of this week very promising, as always very happy to see your drawing @kommienezuspadt, I admire your art!

Hello @kommienezuspadt

I really like drawing comics. And I gladly decided to participate. Of course, I looked at the winners of the previous contest. 90% of the works submitted for the contest are portraits of some heroes, often having no relation to the topic. However, the rules clearly written - draw a comic!
I will say that I was in some confusion, because the comic implies some sort of plot (drawings) and a certain number of frames revealing the essence of the story.
Can I ask you what exactly do you want to see in the works of the participants? Classic comics or a portrait of a character (hero)?

@mister-omortson, the only real guidelines are illustrations, paintings, or artwork that would be passable in the comic book medium. Sequential art is a theme we've done in the past, but it's a high bar for a lot of our regular contributors to meet. You can do sequential art with stories, or simple pinup art. Whatever you prefer.

Wow! I am very happy to be part of the winners, of this incredible contest and if for the first time the first place what excitement! It's a beautiful surprise, thank you very much !!! congratulations to @kommienezuspadt another successful round! your contests are always so exciting and generating wonderful content for Steemit <3

Gratulations to the winners. Like you said war is a very general theme so i expect many creative and interesting entrys 👍

Thanks @bronkong. Really excited to see what you come up with for this one!

Do you know...your Trial by Comics is always bringing me back to be active on steemit 💪🏼😁

A lot of great work there! Half of the people I am already following. Just added you too, for the awesome photography. Looking forward to seeing more!

congratulations all winners and participants :D

WOW nice new theme * ___ *

Thank you @veryspider! It's a little heavy but I'm interested in seeing what the community comes up with. After a year and a half, it's starting to get more and more difficult to come up with themes I haven't done :P

I would like to entry with that

Great job winners!

War, eh, that's be a fun one to do with my b/w drawings, though not sure they are technically comics, but it'd be a good prompt. One week I'm making time to participate, until then I'll enjoy the entries (well even after that I'll still enjoy the entries :) )

You are amazing at doing so much, you should get a steemit award for 'good use of time and time management! I know it is not easy.

HAHA! Thank you @donnadavisart. It actually has been feeling like I'm doing too much lately. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I am overwhelmed. War should be an interesting theme considering fictional depictions are allowed. I'd love to see some LOTR's and Star Wars type entries.

Hi guys, hi @kommienezuspadt here my entry :
The Ravages of a War - War - Trial by Comics

https://steemit.com/trialbycomics/@katari/the-ravages-of-a-war-war-trial-by-comics

couldn't resteem your post now, I would resteem the next contest, if you are ok with that

Congratulations to the winners! I have been surprised with their tickets are wonderful works of art they have done, have worked hard demonstrating their talent deserve it and much more

We have so many great artists here @gvand. Each theme, I feel like the bar gets raised for the entries and new artists.
