Railways will provide free food and refreshments to the passengers traveling on the reserved tickets in the train after the delay of the train for five to six hours on Sunday due to the planned maintenance work of their properties.

New Delhi: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that due to the maintenance work of the tracks, if any train runs for a delay of five to six hours on Sunday, then the Indian Railways will provide free food to the passengers present in the train. Railway Minister said in the interaction with the media, "Railways will provide free food and refreshments to the passengers traveling on the reserved tickets in the train, due to delays of trains for five to six hours on Sunday due to the planned maintenance of their properties."

Food and refreshment will be given by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Goyal said, "We are also considering providing free meals to travelers traveling on unreserved tickets."

The Minister said that on August 15, a new railway schedule will be introduced, in which passengers will be informed about delayed regular trains due to planned maintenance work going on the tracks. He said, "For the past seven-eight days, I have reviewed meetings with the General Managers of Seven Railway Zone. We have decided to run the work of maintenance of railway properties in a planned manner."

He said, "Efforts will be made to improve the timing and there will be no compromise on security." Goyal said that maintenance work will be continued for two hours during the week, while weekends ie six hours of work will be done on Sunday.

He said that the Railway Board has approved the new rail line between Allahabad and Mughalsarai at a cost of Rs. 2,000 crore. Work on this will be completed in three to four years. On the quality of food received in the train, Goyal said that 16 kitchen chambers of IRCTC have been connected to CCTV cameras and travelers can see how food is prepared.
