just easing back into it. some leg work and cardio. skipping, jogging, lunges and more...
very exciting to be back training. this is the start of a long journey to a healthier happier life. hopefully another video and more training tomorrow
I noticed a few mobility issues when you were doing your lunges. I'd say they are fairly typical for a boilermaker who has to hold a heavy lead from a welder all day, day in day out in the same hand.
It's not a great weight but you guys get stuck supporting that weight on one side for hours on end. One arm generally does the lions share of the work for years and it's not ideal for the general balance of our bodies.
I have done more than my fair share of welding and spent a lot of time working in fab shops where I saw and felt the effects of one sided work for years.
Anything we do long term that is one sided (like Boilermaking) sets up imbalances in our bodies.
You are starting with a clean slate and have the perfect opportunity to fix those imbalances before you get into any heavy training.
If I were training you, I'd give you a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to identify those imbalances and take steps to correct them before I started you on any serious training regimen. Then I'd gear your training to compensate for those occupational factors that contribute to those imbalances.
You don't need a PT you can do it all yourself, it's all on youtube.
This is a vid from Gray Cook who is an absolute genius when it comes to getting people moving properly.
If you can video yourself as you do the screen (FMS) you will be able to identify the problems and then look to youtube for corrective exercises to balance things out.
I always want my clients to be as healthy as possible and fixing all those occupational imbalances is always my first step. If I add weight to an unbalanced frame I'm setting the person up for injury later on.
Sorry if this all seems like a rant but I just want to see you get the most out of your training and be as healthy as you can.
thanks mate, I will have a look into it. I am working 12 hour days so I might have also been a little bit drained of energy from the day to top it off. I didn't exercise until about 10pm haha. But anything I can do to get the best results from my training I am willing to try.
