Trains in Australia

I'm not a train spotter though I am employed as a freight train driver. Just thought I'd post a few photos I've taken while at work.
This picture is entering one of the many tunnels in the Adelaide Hills on the main interstate line between Adelaide and Melbourne.

This is a loco which we detached at Tailem Bend (120kms from Adelaide). This is common practice to remove a loco from a train at Tailem Bend because once you reach there from Adelaide the terrain is far less hilly so less locomotive power is needed to complete the journey to Melbourne. On return journeys from Melbourne we often add an extra loco to our train to get through the Adelaide Hills. Trains are often up to 1800 metres long and 5,000 tonnes so at least 3 x 4,000 horse power locos are needed to pull the train up the steep grades encountered in the hills.

These next photos are other locomotives that were sitting at Tailem Bend waiting for a returning train from Melbourne to be added to so as to assist the train through the hills. They belong to railway companies other than the one I work for.
