Episode 07: For Business Owners, Don’t Forget to Apply for Business Travel Credit Cards

in travel-hack •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hey everyone. In the last episode I went through some my personal recommendations of credit cards that I've applied and by no means was it all the cards that I applied otherwise it would just take you know lots of minutes for me to talk and I don't want to bore you on that.

But so far I've only been talking about personal travel credit cards. Either the airline branded or the generic bank ones. However there's a chance to also get the same amount of points but apply for the business equivalent. And so if you are one of those that runs a business or has a business then you’re in for luck. You can get even more travel points and actually put all your business expenses on your business card which is even better.

So what are some examples of business credit cards?

Well think of the all the actual airline branded cards and more than likely they're going to have the equivalent business credit card.

For example the Gold Delta Sky miles Card has a business card equivalent.

Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Master Card has a business equivalent.

The Alaskan Airlines Bank of America Visa card has a business equivalent.

And lastly the United Chase card also has a business card.

It's always worth checking out to see if there is a business card equivalent and then applying for it. And you can have both the personal card and the business card and have both simultaneously and get points simultaneously. Not always a guarantee that the bank will automatically extend both personal and business cards of the same kind, but it’s always worth a try.

For instance the Alaskan Airlines card usually offers 25,000 to 30,000 points at any given time. If I applied to the business and personal card, I’ll get 60,000 points total. Hawaiian Airlines card sometimes offers 35,000 to 50,000 points and so if you applied for the personal and business cards and get approved for both you could have up to 100,000 points.

If you do have your own business then it would be great to know that you can apply to business cards and get more points on top of having personal travel credit cards. You will have to have an EIN number which is the federal tax ID number (per IRS regulations) in order to apply for a business card. They will ask that in the application form. So hopefully for some of you guys out there who own businesses and are looking to earn more bonus points apply for business credit cards.

Doubleling your travel points is really useful obviously! Can I also get a business card by traveling FOR business or do I have to be an owner? @hustletoparadise
