I love canals. They fascinate me. So much work and engineering involved to beat gravity

Posted using Partiko Android

Yeah, I find the engineering interesting. It's neat that it's all based on 1800s technology.

I love how you caught the squirrel in the photo. The swing bridge is quite interesting to me. Now I have another place on my list to visit. Great content!

Thanks. I was trying to get it on the narrow bridge, but it was too hard to notice while crossing.

Well, they are fast little critters. :)

I can see renting a houseboat and traveling the canal to be a lot of fun - but I would have to hire someone who knows how to maneuver a boat. I get seasick going out on a boat in the ocean but i imagine that the water is a lot quieter in the canal.

In order to drive one, you need a boater's license. However, I would start with the smaller ones. Houseboats are clumsy but slow and quite tough. They are perfect for people without experience. However, if you are bringing an expensive speed boat or a large catamaran thought the locks, you definitely want a very experienced pilot.

That is a gorgeous catamaran for sure! At that width, you'd have to concentrate so as to not make contact with the wall on either side.

I noticed there were 3 spotters including one with a pole. They seemed to have been experts.

I always fall in love with the landscapes you show us! What a beautiful ride!

Thanks. I really liked the setting Bobcaygeon is such a nice town. Actually, I would say about 75% of the length of the canal is basically cottages or treelined shore and very little industry.

That canal is very beautiful. I've been to quite a few of the locks along it.

The lift locks are my favorite.

Enjoyed your photos. It was like a trip down memory lane as I have been to Boycageon and have friends that live in Lindsay and Pigeon Lake.

Glad you liked it. Kawarthas are great but they don't get as much attention as Muskoka.

Scott and I have been playing with the idea of someday doing the waterways in the States. It is a daydream for us because we have so many counties to get yet. But, wait, would it count for the counties we sailed through in the US Waterways??? Hmmm, you have made me ponder if this dream could be true!
Great post,
Ren

Many states and provinces in the US and Canada are larger than most countries so there is a lot to explore.
Ontario is around 1 million km2 or bigger than any country entirely in Europe and the average country size is less than 770000 km2.

There are definitely a lot, but every time we pass through a county where we are able to see a little bit more of the beauty available to all. We are hoping to visit Ontario sometime as well.
