If you have ever been to the Alps, you will find small farms all over the place. Those are mostly an expensive hobby where part of the costs get returned via agricultural subsidies by the EU and local governments. Tourism needs those farms and small(ish) structures, so the land looks pretty and is taken care off to make it liveable without wasting too much ressources in regions far out the cities.

I tried to highlight all aspects of the importance of farming in order to make summer and winter tourism in the alps possible and sustainable for Mogasi Magazin - a friend, sasi translated it to english for me.
This text is focused on Tirol and could vary in different regions. Is it different, where you live? Are you a farmer getting subsidies from the EU?
