Naples (Napoli), Italy - Day 2

in travel •  7 years ago

Hi everyone!!

Yesterday I posted about my boyfriend (@schillaci) and I's first day in Naples, so today will be about the second day! To catch you up if you didn't see the first one: we walked around Naples, found delicious pizza, an awesome castle, and some cool graffiti!

So here we go...

DAY 2

Taken at Villa San Michele in Ana Capri, Italy

We ended up waking up late (11 AM), so we didn't make it out of our room until lunch time. But that turned out fine - we decided to go back to the same delicious and cheap restaurant, Bar Da Rosa. This time we switched it up. Andrew got a pizza with eggplant on it and I got one with rocket (a very bitter green), ham, and a ton of fresh mozzarella.

After we got lunch, we hopped on a ferry to go to Capri, an island off of the Italian coast. The island was even more beautiful than I had expected - it's essentially a cliff rising out of the sea covered in trees with colorful buildings ascending the slope. It was stunning enough that we reserved a room for the night right away (more on that part in tomorrow's blog), despite our other reservation in Naples (seriously, that pretty).

At this point, we decided that we wanted to go up to the top of the island to see the view, so we bought bus tickets that took us up the island to a part called Ana Capri (a small town esentially at the very top of the island). Here's a picture from the ride up:

As you can see, the view was absolutely breathtaking. Andrew and I could barely say anything besides "Holy shit" and "WOAH".

The bus dropped us off in the center of Ana Capri, which was unbelievably charming and beautiful. Here's a picture:

We wandered around the streets to find a shoemaker that Andrew's cousin knows. Eventually we found the shop and ended up buying five pairs of shoes! The shoes are gorgeous and completely handmade, and the men who work there are polite, kind, and helpful. We walked away smiling.

This picture was actually taken the second day, but it is at the shoe store with Andrew's family friend!

Andrew had heard of a cool church called 'San Michele', so we set off in what we thought was the right direction to find it. Turns out we went completely the wrong way, but we happened upon something that was potentially even better - Villa San Michele, a house built and owned by author and doctor Axel Munthe. The house was absolutely stunning - filled which ancient relics he had collected, along with about 20 different types of marble that were incorporated into the columns, floors, and tables. And the best part? The house stood right on the edge of a cliff, with gardens that overlooked the fantastic view of Capri we had seen from the bus.

And another picture of me in a different part of the extensive gardens!

After exploring the house for about an hour and a half, we set off to get dinner. We went back to the shoe guys to ask for a good place to eat, and they referred us to a restaurant called "Trattoria Il Solitario" that had a patio covered over by lemon trees. We found the place after a brief walk, and wound our way back through what seemed like a maze to the back of the alley where the restaurant was located. Our friend hadn't lied. The restaurant was super pretty and was, indeed, covered by a ceiling of lemon tree branches:

We got the most delicious ravioli I have ever taken (shown in the picture above), along with a couple appetizers and more delicious pasta. We also bought the house red and white wines, which did not fail to disappoint by any means. We liked it so much that we even bought a bottle of red to take back with us.

We left dinner stuffed, but still determined to see more, so we wandered a bit on the way. Here's a picture of the streets all lit up:

We took a taxi back to the hotel (more once again on that experience in tomorrow's post), got changed, and went out to drink our wine and look around Capri. All in all, another absolutely wonderful day!

Don't forget to look out for the blog from our third day tomorrow!!
