Jeeping @ Wombat Forest (with kangaroos)

in travel •  7 years ago

Hooray, finally the TJ Wrangler is ready and we found some time to take the Jeep to its natural habitat. There was a lot of work getting it ready, many of the suspension components had to be changed in order for it to get the required roadworthy certificate. Also the previous owner had riveted a steel plate on the rear to give it a boot which we removed by drilling out the rivets and cutting it in half with an angle grinder. There was also a very heavy subwoofer in the rear so we had to remove all this too. I think we took about 90kg of top heavy weight off and it handles much better now.

Now she is where she belongs!

They all this Wombat State Forest but really there are a lot more kangaroos and wallabies than there are wombats.

IMG_20171208_144654.jpg

Have to be very careful not to hit them, they can really damage your vehicle if you do because they can jump in the air and go through the windscreen (never happened to me thankfully).

IMG_20171208_144654_1.jpg

We set up a bed for Leelu in the back, she likes traveling in the convertible Jeep much more than other vehicles. We might give her a hammock soon so she's not sliding all over the place. Still investigating options here.

IMG_20171208_144727.jpg

Gumtrees are the native fauna in this part of the world. They grow very fast and a good option for regrowth. They can burn like crazy though so this area is frequently backburned.

IMG_20171208_144915.jpg

The clouds cleared shortly after our arrival which was lucky.

IMG_20171208_145340.jpg

IMG_20171208_150753.jpg

Asking why we have stopped but not stopped for lunch.

IMG_20171208_150800.jpg

It's nice to have the 33" tires and lift kit here. Helps drive over logs and rocks etc.

IMG_20171208_151438.jpg

My best Fonzie impression.

IMG_20171208_151512.jpg

We took on a few tracks but a trial run for the Jeep we didn't do anything too crazy. Still need to get a high-lift jack, 4x4 tracks, winch etc so we don't get stuck. Owning a Jeep can be expensive especially compared to a dirt bike.

IMG_20171208_171529.jpg

Leelu fell in after this... she underestimated the depth lol.

IMG_20171208_173601.jpg

Finding a friend in the wild. An old defender ute.

IMG_20171208_181348.jpg

Anyway I think now we need to give the Jeep a name... anyone have any ideas?

Man I miss Australia!

This looked fun as hell. Followed

Looks really Fun! What catch my attention is the cutie Leelu in jacket. I like dogs.

Do you think my Kia Sorrento would get over those tracks? Standard ride height? Im in Ballarat area and always on the lookout for new paths and people to go out with

Yeah I think so, the ones in the photos should be no problem, you could cruise around the park and stuff no problem but there are also some serious 4WD tracks in there that need a lot of ground clearance. I'd be happy to take you out some time if you want just let me know, been meaning to check out the areas around Ballarat and Bendigo etc.

Awesome Ill send you a message when I have nothing doing on the weekend and I can follow you lead! I know some cool tracks around here too but not happy to do them solo

i wanna be there

I love natural lovers, i always spot you

OMG. It is my dream to visit AUS. I've always wondered what it would feel like in the outbacks! You guys sure know how to camp!!

Cheers!

Nice, respect to narure

What an adventure for everyone, and I mean including the jeep and of course Leelu 😄. Have someone else thought of Rambo/Rambu?

Hi Tess, the banner was a panoramic photo from the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. I have a Google Pixel phone and it's an option on the camera app. Great phone for taking photos (the Samsung S7/S8 is good too).

Amazing photography 💕💕

Nice TJ! KM2s are a great tire - I ran them for ~65,000 miles. Always took me anywhere I wanted to and wore really well with regular balancing & running proper pressure. Just switched o the A/T KO2s for a smoother on-road ride, as I'm planning more overlanding in the next year.

Thanks! I find that these tires aren't great on the freeway. I'm glad you mentioned the "A/T KO2s" because I'm looking for a good tire to replace these when they wear down. We're planning to overland across Australia soon so this info is really handy :)

Awesome !!! Nice photos !!!! Where is this place ?

wow good writing, i like that
You can greet from Indonesia, come to Indonesia because Indonesia is beautiful :)

Looks like both of you guys (you and your dog) are rockin the improved jeep! I'll suggest "Double X" for the name- pulling from the license plate number as well as the fact that it is a 4x4 haha

hey mate been to wombat plenty of times beautiful place unless you sink the 4wd haha i am guessing your didn't go threw them bog holes or hit the 4wd tracks?

We went through a couple of small ones, still testing the waters. We come from dirt bikes so know the forests well but we don't have a lot of experience 4WDing. Def a beautiful place there, I think we'll hit the high country soon too.

Hi guys, Please see my yeezy contest I’m running on my page :)

Hard Work is the Secret to Success
Even when you are talking about people like Tiger Woods and Warren Buffett. I think this is really hard for people to accept. Maybe it's hard to accept because then we'd have to accept that we aren't billionaires or star football players because we didn't work hard enough at it.

I'd bet that success is greatly tied to interest. It's hard to work really hard at something you aren't interested in. But if you like writing code, you enjoy solving that puzzle, then you do it a lot and you get good at it. Once you are good at it, people give you kudos, and maybe even pay you, and that motivation makes you feel good, and so you do it some more, and you get better at it. Sooner or later you're really good at it because you've been "practicing" hard for a long time.

so good your car

The forest is probably named after the Wombat township (now Daylesford) where it sits geographically

Oh that makes a lot of sense! Thanks!

Great adventure!

Your name actually befits you @adventurerider. Nice pictures you took, you must have had fun.

Great post @adventurerider! Your Jeep looks like a Billy to me!

looking adventurous.....in india we call jeep " jonga" .. this name you can give

I nominate Vader for the Jeep

Haha I actually really like this! I usually give my vehicles female names but it does look like a Vader. Will have to dwell on this for a while.

Let me know what you decide

From France 🇫🇷

you are really a great photographer man. i love your photography plz F @nishshup

Uff amazing Jeep man,
my Jeep call "La Burra".

Hey this is a good idea... can I ask why it's feminine and not masculine (el burro?).

I hope the Kangaroos don't bother the dogs and you don't have to square up with one like that video on youtube!

Nice ride

Nice vehicle ,your trip is also great.

Nice jeep. Beautiful place

These are beautiful photos! I would personally love to own a jeep wrangler and drive through the outback. Getting to see a kangaroo in person and in the wild is a sort of a dream of mine and may or may not be on my bucket list. Keep up with these nature/adventure posts and enjoy the wild!

I'd name the jeep Sheela (Australian slang term).

"The Road Buster" I think?

This was awesome thank you. Name the Jeep "Nature" you will be seeing a lot of it.

Wow! Someday, I will buy a Jeep and explore the forest. Just like you. Thank you for posting this! Cool photos btw. :)

Thanks for sharing. Some nice looking picture!

this is really an adventure.

Good post! Visit our blog and see the latest news and the best tops :D Greetings

Thats an awesome Jeep.

This is awesome... U really had fun, I which I was there. Love your dog, what is his name?

Great jeep bro. That must be a great adventure I think. Australia is a great place for adventuring but you have to be careful walking around the jungle in Australia because that the most poisonous snakes exist in Australia. By the way, I love your dog. It looks so cute and friendly. Lucky you Brooo

Oh ya... Black Binggo is a Good name for your jeep because it has black colour and Binggo means different. What do you think?

How much fuel might your vehicle consume? ;-)

Some time ago I had a 4x4, Toyota 1974, completely renovated. In that car I traveled throughout the eastern region of my country, Venezuela.
It was so much the power and the emotion that I felt when driving that vehicle, that I believed myself to be a pioneer, an explorer of life and nature.
I also felt the need to give him a name, maybe as they did before with the horses, so I decided to call him THE CABESTRO. Obviously I also assumed a pseudonym: LA CABESTRERA DEL ORINOCO.
You may not find a direct translation of these names, but it means the following:
CABESTRO is the animal leader of the herd of bulls and cows; and the CABESTRERO is the man who controls and drives the herd of bulls and cows to their destination. The Halter and the Cabrestrero, animal and man, work in synergy to herd the herd.
Then it occurred to me to be THE CABESTRERA DEL ORINOCO, that is, the bulldozer of the biggest river in my country, because that's how I felt when I was driving my 4x4 THE CABESTRO.

Awesome pics and Jeep. I miss my Jeep YJ. I'm living in Mexico now and hope to buy a used one next year. Can't wait to go exploring. Cheers mate!

Mexico would be the bomb for this stuff!

Nature is the first friend of a man.The trees, water, soil, sunshine, and also your dog is the part of Nature. amazing, man

mmmmmmm

Sick! Your Jeep looks great too, just have to slap on a "Jurassic Park" sticker. Are you a member at http://jeepgarage.org? I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude but I actually lowered it, which wouldn't work out so great on your adventures. She's purely meant for the streets!
