Photos from Mostar, Bosnia (Original Content)

in travel •  7 years ago

I was going through some photos of our trip through Europe last year when I remembered Mostar in Bosnia. This was one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited. We stayed for 3 days but one can visit on a day trip from Croatia.

At the heart of Mostar is the Old Bridge over the Neretva river. It's about 3 or 4 stories high but brave locals will jump off the bridge into the freezing cold water. The bridge was previously destroyed by a tank during the Bosnian / Serbian war but it was rebuilt in 2004 to the original spec.

There are other similar bridges around which are still original albeit they're much smaller in size.

Mostar is a beautiful city and the attention to detail is simply amazing. This was a water feature at a restaurant on the main street. We had Bosnian coffee here, which is different to Western coffee. When you drink coffee in Bosnia, it's to take time out, not to increase your productivity. You don't drink coffee while focusing your attention on another task :)

Mostar is especially beautiful at night time. The speakers over the town play music (I think it's for Islamic prayer) and the town begins to relax. The restaurants were amazing, looking over a network of small rivers.

Sadly as seen from our hotel there are still many reminders of the war that was fought here. Hopefully this will not happen again.

Thank you for posting this @adventurerider! Beautiful pics! I'm European and have never been to Bosnia, what a shame! Now that I see these pictures, it makes me want to discover more of the eastern countries =) Thanks for sharing! Will follow you for more adventures

Do you now that during summer there is diving competition which is happening from that bridge. Did you visit Croatia also ?

Yeah I recall reading somewhere about the diving competition... these people have some cajones!

Also visited Croatia which was also incredibly beautiful. I'll share some of my Croatia photos soon too. Would love to get back there actually.

I would love to see them , I'm photographer and on my blog I post pictures from Croatia, check them if you want. You probably went to Dubrovnik :)

Cool Dubrovnik was awesome I loved it, had an awesome AirBnB up the coast at Zotar for a week looking over the water. Really loved it there. Following you now :)

How deep is the water if people are jumping off the bridge! It doesn't look very deep at all

Awesome photo
