Visiting Mt Beauty before the snowfall

in travel •  7 years ago

Last month we made a visit to Mt Beauty in Victoria, Australia. We were hoping to see some snow but it hadn't started yet, even though it was one of the coldest recorded times up there!

We rented a car and took the long route through the mountains. The trip took around 8 hours. Along the way we stopped to check out the sunrise from behind a random mountain in the middle of nowhere.

Leelu was in the car all day so I whipped out the Arrma Granite and let her chase it for a while.

We had dinner and arrived at our AirBnB and went straight to bed... it was freezing cold up there. But a beautiful place to wake up.

First thing we did was drive towards the ski town Falls Creek. There was no snow but snow chains were required at that time of year. Instead of visiting the town we decided to take a hike off the side of the road to check out a local waterfall.

We passed the small village of Bogong and stopped for some photos. It was Saturday morning and there was not a single person in the village. The lake was frozen over in the shady parts.

The ice was fun to throwaround.

We left for Bright, one of my favourite towns in Australia. Along the way we stopped at a pine forest and made a visit to Ovens river. We took the R/C car out for a quick run by the river. I tried to cross the river with the car but Leelu chased the car into the water and got stuck. Then I had to run into the river to save Leelu... it was 0 degrees outside! Thankfully I had a spare pair of shoes.

When we arrived in Bright there was an outdoor winter beer festival going on so we ordered a woodfire pizza and a couple of local craft beers. A great way to wrap up the day!
