Exploring Finland

in travel •  6 years ago

So this trip was made November of last year, but I thought why not post it now, for all those people who can't stand the heat in summer and are constantly wishing for the cold weather to come along. I was actually on a business trip this time, destination, Levi, a small ski town located above the arctic circle, where people usually go to enjoy some winter sports. I was attending a conference at the Hotel Levi Panorama for three days, during which Finland managed to surprise me with it's minimum temperature of -18 °C that week...Any how I must say I was impressed with some of the views from the top of the mountain.

Here is a photo from one of the terraces at the conference building, the result... we get this incredible view. It is worth mentioning that to get up there you have to go up by ski lift ;D

And of course you can't end a business trip without a bit of fun, so I decided to see if I could arrange a trip to see the northern lights before I headed back to the UK. Although it wasn't really the right season to chase the lights I couldn't miss this opportunity whilst I was there, so I visited a local agency and luckily they managed to arrange it on such short notice. Thinking I was going to be the only one on this trip, a nice couple from Austria joined me along for the evening, and we all headed north a few miles to a nice frozen lake, where it would be the perfect place to spot the lights. Although it wasn't guaranteed we would have much aurora activity that night, to our surprise after about an hour and half waiting, literally when we were going to head back in 10 minutes, the sky started to light up and then it began... it seemed like the lights were dancing... it was beautiful.
